Are you phased by all the "knowledge" there is on here, and do you find yourself apologising for asking "silly" questions, or do you have an answer for every thread and wonder why people don't know the answers to all the things they are asking already?

People asking silly questions, well its said that no question is silly if the person learns from it although I dont know if it is good for them to learn from here as there seems to be many who are very inexperienced but that doesnt stop them from replying with incorrect answers and dubious advice.
 
I'm amazed at how many different "types" (not the right word but couldn't think at the mo) of people there are who all love horses. There are the ones that I think "yep - I really agree with that", those that think they're knowledgeable but I don't think so, some I learn from and others when I think "get a life" or "you're having a laugh"! It's the confo ones that usually bring out the stupid comments I think "ohh I don't like his pastern" or some other random remark. There's the fluffy bunnies and the good ol hunting shooting die hards - great when they both discuss the same. I feel somewhere in the middle with being an expert or imbecile.
 
Oh, I don't need a Forum to make me feel like an imbecile! I can manage that all by my self...;)
 
No not at all, I like the fact that it's so open and so many different levels of knowledge, humour and personalities, if you knew everthing there was to know, then you'd be some kinda of Equi God! :D

Just because someone knows something, doesn't mean their trying to be some kind of expert...and vice versa, you have to remember when to draw the line, remember it's a forum, take some things with a pinch of salt too at times, certainly some very knowledgeable and funny characters on here that I wish was on my yard at times I can tell ya :)
 
I feel very much like I don't know anything, but there are lots of questions on here that I read and actually find myself being able to answer.

But it depends what it's about. I am well aware that there are gaping holes in my knowledge. I know almost nothing about feeding, for instance.
 
I tend to read more than post but I do believe that sometimes perhaps there is no right or wrong but you can make your own mind up from others peoples experiences. Examples like tack and feed for instance. Nice to hear what others use - what worked for them etc.

I dont think any question is stupid and I have learnt quite a bit through some of the questions / replies even the non-horsey ones lol!
 
I think I'm somewhere in the middle but sometimes feel that I drift from one end of the spectrum to the other! :o I just stick to commenting on things I have experience of and try not to come across as a know-it-all. :)
 
In NL, there are a lot of opinions offered and not (imo) always very good advice but its highly entertaining! Particular fan of the obvious wind up (who likes cobs etc) posts!

However, if you log onto the specific forums, such as vet, dogs etc then there is a wealth of in-depth knowledge and help which I have freely made use of..

Sometimes it surprises me the things that people don't know and yet they profess to have owned horses for years. Simple things that I learnt by reading horse and pony care guides as a kid, or by doing progressive tests or just being quizzed by instructors, like the names of bits and stuff.

On the otherhand there are some brilliantly knowledgeable people on here who give great advice. I won't do a roll call, but a huge wealth of knowledge and experience. In fact it amazes me that some of them are really quite young but have so much experience (Millitiger for example I think is 23).

Then there are the obvious bull**** brigade.......... less said the better.

Then there are genuine novices and a whole host of other people in between.

I would never profess to be an expert, but try to give a bit of advice when I can as in 20 odd years of lessons I must have picked up a few useful hints and hope to help out where possible!!! I acknowledge that I lack experience on some fronts though because I've never owned my own horse.

My jumping position tip has been very popular, maybe if everyone is hovering as if over a scummy public loo while jumping my work here is done!!! :D Can I claim expert staus on the back of that???? Can I???? Please????? :D


**Oh and it always makes me feel better that there are people out there who are worse at spelling that me!!! :o
 
I'm certainly not an expert, in any way, but it doesn't make me feel like an imbecile :) It's nice sometimes to be able to read someone's question and think 'I would give x answer' and then read other peoples reply - I often find it surprising how often someone else has given the same which makes me happy :D And then you get replies from people who obviously have more knowledge/experience which vary slightly due to the fact they've experienced more so I get to learn too.
The variety is always interesting :)
 
There is no such thing as a stupid question, nobody should be afraid to post something because of a fear of being picked on or laughed at.
I've learnt many things from this site, made some nice friends and have been supported when it was needed...however there are a few on here who could have an argument in an empty house!!!
I find if I don't know then I don't answer otherwise it can do more harm than good...but somepeople like the sound of their own "voice" and reply to everything even though it's a load of rubbish!!!
I also find people take the written word the wrong way which doesn't help but as long as you choose your words carefuly I find this forum and the people on it helpful and deffo somewhere I seek advice.

The more you know about horses, the more you realise how much there IS to know, and that nobody can possibly know everything.

As has been said numerous times above, there is no such thing as a stupid question. I'm far more concerned for the welfare of horses belonging to the aforementioned "experts!"
 
It makes me feel exactly what i am - somewhere in between! Im knowledgable on certain things but need to learn a bit more about other things :D
 
Also somewhere in between and grateful for some of the stupid questions that have been asked. Been around horses most of my life but that doesn't mean I know everything. IMO there is always something new to learn.

This is me in a nutshell :D

The more I learn the more I realise I don't know and I am learning all the time
 
I'd like to say neither but as I was pulled up on my use of an ' I felt like I was at school ! I think most people like to get info to help make choices. You never stop learning.
 
im new and a novice - i love this forum - it dsoesnt make me feel stupid and i would be very comfortable asking anything - everyone seems really nice and i am learning so much from just reading the threads - i dotn feel like an imbocile at all - just a novice who wants to learn and gain as much general information as i can.
 
I always ask lots of questions. I always want to improve and so sometimes they may be silly questions :p but generally I like to find things out. I have been a member for a while, but never posted a lot (was scared!) as I didnt feel I knew a lot...I've learnt a little bit now :D...perhaps!
 
I know stuff and I don't know stuff. I am neither an expert or an imbecile.I will express an opinion if asked or suggest a possible solution but would not profess it to be right.As what worked for me might not work for you.
 
Oh I love this forum for learning... i have learnt some super tips.. And it's great for finding out which products are good and which are not so..

I always use it for research too on situations.. Decided to go for my particular towing car because of some of the comments too..!! lol

Doesn't phase me, we are all at different levels so if I can help someone I will if I have allready had experience of their problem, if it's something I dont know about then I will perhaps learn from others on here who do know by reading their replies ;) if they talk craap I ignore it :p
