OMG i'm having a right old flap!
Right - i've always been a very relaxed horse owner, with very little mis-haps on the yard. But recently i have become really paranoid that something will happen to one of my horses and i can't work out why?
I come on her quite a lot and as the nature of forums is to discuss i find myself getting drawn to posts where something has happened to someones horse or pony and now i find that everything i look at is a potential danger and i becoming a freaked out owner!

Last Tues my 4 year old jumped in with my 6 year old eventer and kicked in in the stifle, cue cut, swelling and sore horse, and one withdrawl from WH class a vet visit and bute/antibiotics for 6 days. 4 year old fine though.

Same day 2 year old had severe choke - has had before but not since Nov 09. 2 hrs with vet and 3 hourly checks through night.

Sunday - hacked 5 year old who felt 'odd' on right trot diagonal, schooled him last night to double check and hey presto flat right canter and generally unhappy pony - chiropracter booked for monday (can't come before as on hols!)
Also hacked (quiet walk in straight lines for 20 mins) 6 year old - fine, sound and happy

Today - 6 year old slipped and fell on knees whilst playing with 5 year old over the gate and has bashed his leg and done something to his pelvis and isn't right behind?! - another chiropractor is booked for Thurs am

3 out of 5 horses are/have been broken in the last week!

Whats going on?! I've never had so much go wrong in one week! Horses all go out in separate paddocks to avoid this sort of situation.

Think i need to calm down or i'm gonna be a bag of nerves by the end of the week!

Deep breaths!

Look at it this way, you've got 5 horses therefore the possibilities of more things going wrong with them is higher anyway, just look at the stakes.

Calm down and have a hot choccy :D

Oh poor you thats alot to go wrong in one week. Maybe that'll be it for a while now once this is over and you'll go back to having 5 happy healthy sound horses for a long time. :)
(((((hugs))))) to you.

:(You are having a rotten run of bad luck aren't you? As Kenzo says, statistically, the more horses you have the more chance there is of something going wrong.
Hope all the horses recover soon.

As for your question "Does this forum make you paranoid?"

In a word No.

I have a floating population, this morning I have 23 horses on the property, if I went out thinking "what could go wrong?" I'd have heart failure every time I saw one lying down, or off by itself, or chewing a tree, or ....... the list is endless, I'd be a nervous wreck.

If things go wrong then they go wrong, I call the Vet, or farrier, dig a hole or change what I can for the better but I don't rush for the forums, or my books, about every little cough or mis-step. The day that happens is the day I sell them, and the farm, and then move to a peaceful cottage on the side of a lake WITH NO ACREAGE.

Thanks for the advice - i don't really post on here for advice - i'm happy with the way i look after my bunch, but i'm not sure if i have become more paranoid by listening to other peoples experiences.

I'm not on a livery yard, so i suppose this forum is my 'virtual' livery yard! And i have become more aware of just how many people have a tough time with their horses.

Right on that note i am going out to check my boy and change his cool boot :)

:) I think that is almost inevitable really, because there are so many people on here, there are so many things we read about and it does make you think.

Have a good day:)
