Ok, so went to unaff dressage comp today, our first in a while.
lots of nice horses with one very nice black warmblood( who belongs to my mate)
She did her test first, with our horses calling to each other which was very naughty, then I did mine.
Both were video'd. Her horse went round with his head in the air being inattentive while mine kept his shape and squeaked a bit. Guess who won?
Same judge next test, guess who won?
Yep, the warmblood.
My horse is older and more consistant, whereas hers is very handsome and flashy.
Am I the only one who gets this?
We even had the same comments but I had a lower mark.
It does put me off a bit. If it hadn't have been my mate I would have been really cross.
I have got a warmblood but hes only 2, so I have a bit of a wait!

Yes it can and does happen, not that it should. It's the first impression that counts apparently, and if you look the part then that has to count for something! Is it possible that you're just jealous

Although it doesn't always happen - I took my clumpy old ID out to a dressage competition once only to be faced with some rather nice horses, and one rather posh-looking NF pony with a posh and professional looking rider on board. Pony looked potential FEI standard to me! I went in the arena, told the writer my name, collected up my heffalump and did the MOST spanking working trot down the arena. Judge's jaw on floor (didn't expect my horse to be able to move, obviously) and I came second, beating the NF! So it certainly doesn't always count if you have a "proper" dressage horse/ pony!

No, not jealous.
My boy is a ID/TB who does his best to look the part. He doesn't come off the floor like a WB tho.
I also know the judge breeds WBs, as I have spoken to her about breeding etc.
My boy is correct to a marker, obedient and maintains a shape. He isn't built uphill so I need to push for it, whereas WBs are usually uphill and naturally bouncy.

its very odd sometimes , i had a terrible day yesterday , horse travelled very badly which is very unusual for him , arrived very sweaty , had to wash down & ask to be put to end of class , not enough working in time , disobedient ( again most unusual) & rushing , got through our N36SQ in reasonable fashion but not very round , transitions not neat enough , medium work bit rushed & flat , the result 64.61% & 3rd place

Haha PMSL I have an Irish heffalump too, she goes round the warm up grunting in canter, I am sure its just tactics to put the others off!!! And yes when she is good she is jaw dropping fantastic too!!! Caused quite an upset when last time she beat the local dressage clique in an unaff Elem!!!
