Does this saddle look too long?

Ruby is quite short backed, popped May's tack on her last night to see how it looked (17.5 saddle) - obviously I will get it check before riding in it, but think I might need a 17 inch saddle.

and bridle with borrowed bit! She is only a 5 inch! Have changed the reins and cheek peices now for non clip ones! (just in case!)

It's all about where it sits in relation to her final rib - if you find he final rib, draw a line diagonally backwards up to her spine floowing the line of the rib, this will tell you where the saddle should not sit beyond if that makes sense? You can't tell from a pic IMO unless it is wildly too long, you need to feel the horse in the flesh!
 
I think it is bordering too long. Maybe a touch too far forward. Alot of people place dressage saddles too far foreward though.. I would get a 17" one.
 
I agree with spotted cat and CB.

With the saddle in that position, she will not be able to move her shoulder fully and it could pinch. Whichever size, get it checked by a qualified saddle fitter.

The bridle looks fine, she is a very pretty girly.
 
Definitely call a saddler - you may find that you even have to get a 16.5" depending on the make.

Just make sure that you get the fitter to full assess you in the saddle - if the distance between your hip and thigh means that a 16.5" or a 17" is going to be too small for you, it will put the saddle out of balance even though it fits the horse (which incidentally that saddle does not, regardless of its length).
 
Oh, and she is very nice (I have a soft spot for dark bays). You just need to work on her topline which the fitter should also take into account when fitting the saddle.

She has been in the field for 6 weeks and has not been re-schooled from Racing. Am starting longreining tonight!
 
I would bear this in mind when getting a saddle fitted - you dont want to find that it is too tight / no room for adjustment 6 months down the line.
