hi all, me again

Just been on the phone to the farrier, and his verdict on yesterday is-
William has good feet, not TBy, but they have a tenancy to flatten towards the 6 week period, and his heals drop.
the onset of spring and sudden foot growth caught me unaware (very bad and now very worried owner i know) and his feet have grown
my farrier feels that the heal drop may be causing the shoe to press into the frog, and also putting strain on the tendons, so when he jumped on firm ground he felt it, in comparison to jumping in the school at home
i am no vet and no farrier, but to me this seems a possible explanation for his relcutancy to jump, and steap uncomfortable landing when he did leave the ground

i am now feeling awful, and hate myself for potentially risking Wills, and for not booking the farrier, even though its only been 5 weeks

I get mine done every 5 weeks as by 6 weeks it really starts to show, and it means if there is a problem with the farrier I have a few days grace without any major problems.

I'm certainly no expert but the explanation of your boy seems quite feasible to me

I have a 5yo very fine tb mare who we have exactly the same problem with re the heels. It started about 3 months ago when she randomly started stopping (when she has always been so sweet and honest before and had no obvious scare etc). We got the vet to have a look and he said he tought it was cos she had so little heel and a v sensitive frog and so strain on tendons a little too mabye. I don't know if its the same thing? But she is getting heel wedges on her shoes which will hopefully sort it. Apparently its quite common in tbs? And our vet said to an untrained eye q hard to spot a lack of heel. Is it on all your horses feet? My mare just has it behind.

Sorry i can't be more help
