Hi all, my tb had a trim yesterday, all was fine, hes been out overnight and decided to bring him up for the day as his feet are getting abit soft in the wet field. He was abit reluctant to pick up his right fore and kept offering me his left. Seemed to me he was reluctant to shift weight onto left fore. When i eventually got his right fore up he rested his diaganol hind to this. He then did the same this eve and when i walked him up the yard to turn back out he was lame on his left fore. Not crippled but ovbiously lame. He lunged for the first time yesterday in months but had abit of a hooley which he doesnt normally do so i swiftly pulled him up! he had his easyboots on so not a bruise. Maybe twisted something?? no heat or swelling up the leg, nothing ovbious staring me in the face! No heat in his foot! He was fine yesterday on the lunge and up and down the yard. Hence why im thinking puss because its been so sudden. Does this sound like puss brewing? or would his foot be on fire? i didnt think to check for a pulse.
 
It could be. I would poultice to see whether anything can be drawn out. If you don't draw anything, get the Vet or Farrier to come and test his hoof with the hoof testers.
 
I would check for a bounding diigital pulse which suggests congestion in the foot, which obviously could be an abcess or other foot problem. Hope you get ot sorted-farrier or vet?
 
You say he had a trim - is he unshod? If so he may just be feeling a little sore maybe farrier trimmed a little hard.

Soak his feet in a mix of bluestone/Copper Sulphate, this will help to harden up the foot again.

If still lame in a coouple of days ask farrier to call and check the foot.
 
Does he have a digital pulse?

My share fella came in dog lame 3 weeks ago. This too was very sudden so I assumed I'd find evidnece of an abscess. Nope - no heat, no pulse and no reaction to hoof testers. Vet took a look - nothing immediately obvious and foot block didn't bring sound. Went down the rest and bute for 10 days route after which he'd improved enormously but still wasn't right. Further rest has brought him back to his usual self. I think he must've had an unusual hooley in the field and has pulled himself. Physio is going to give hime the once over next week - 3 weeks off and his back will have stiffened up again!
 
When my lad had a foot abscess last winter he went hopping lame, with the hoof wall very hot. Within a few minutes of the vet finding the pus (couldn't get hold of farrier) he went back to weight bearing and was sound within 48 hrs of poulticing.

To me the lamness doesn't sound dramtic enough so would suspect he is foot sore after his trim, but would speak to your farrier in the first instance.
