Hi, 2 days ago I noticed 3 raised lumps on horse's side (just behind saddle area), alll about the size of 20p piece. These haven't got bigger and no others have appeared. Horse is not bothered with me touching them and I have removed the top off one and he didn't flinch.

This revealed red sore skin underneath. Lump itself is like thick scurfy/greasy scab with all the hair attached.

Is this ringworm?
If so how would horse have caught it?
Best treatment?

Any advice very much appreciated.

I don't know about ring worm, but my horse got bitten by a really huge fly (a type of horsefly I think but more than twice as big) and she came up in two raised lumps which came off along with the hair to reveal ouzing sores.

Hmm, my first thought was that he had actually bitten himself to get at an itch (they are just at the reach of his teeth) or that they were fly bites.

Not sure now whether to remove other 2 scurfy hair lumps and treat with anti fungal cream (as if if ringworm) or with normal wound cream which I used on the first one!!
