Sam has a few

When he's out 24/7 and I bring him up to the yard, he always kicks the stable door until I open it, then he has a drink from his water bucket!
After about 10 mins of being on the yard, he always has a poop

When he's in and I've mucked the stable out, he always has a poop as soon as he goes back in!

After I've worked him he always has a drink again (my neighbour has got give her horse warm water with a bit of apple juice to make him drink) we don't have that issue

Kelsey

When she was ridden she always always went for a drink when she went back into the field and then had a roll

What are your horses little habits?

Harley will always drop food over his door so that when you take him out of the stable he can clean it all up.

He will take a drink of water, hold a lot in his mouth for up to a minute and usually drop it all on someone (he's so far never done this to me).

If I get there and dont immediately pay attention to him and say hello, he will kick the door until I do.

When he is being ridden, after a while if I let him stand for a minute, he will turn his head round and start biting my boots. He does this for both feet. Its almost a teething behaviour that one, dont think it will always happen.

When he is getting his hooves done by the farrier, he will start grooming the farrier (that one is slightly embarassing).

Cant think of anymore but can probably add to this. :)

Mine lives out now but when he was stabled after eating he would launch his big black rubber trug over the door.
Given the chance he will grab the toggles on coats and fleeces (the ones usually on elastic) pull and let go, twanging the wearer. He doesn't do it with me because I'm strict but will try it with the unsuspecting.

Samuel always scratches his back legs on the barrow when he's tied up outside his stable when I'm mucking out. I've given up now and just hold it steady while he scratches away so he doesn't tip it over.

When I'm riding him and I stop to chat to someone, or we have to wait at a checkpoint on a sponsored ride, after a few minutes he starts doing this funny little thing with his front legs. He keeps crossing them as if to say' Come on Mum, this is boring'.

When I tie him up with a haynet while I'm grooming him he'll completely ignore the hay. The second I come out of the tack room with his bridle he starts stuffing his face as if he's starving.

He ALWAYS without fail has a wee when I put him in his stable, sometimes it's just a little token wee, but it's every time.

When I'm leading him to or from the field he has to investigate every dropping he spots along the way.

Pedantic - cool pic! its funny Sam only seems to roll if he's really sweaty, or if his buddy rolls first! he doesn't usually do it on his own accord

rachk89 - is yours young? he sounds very similar to Sam!! and now you mention the water thing, I was filling his bucket one morning, before work, and he drop water over my freshly washed hair haha

Hanson - how funny, sounds like he's making sure his bladder is empty enough for him to be able to enjoy the hack! :)

Sort of similar to Gift Horse, mine has always been fascinated by Velcro tabs on jackets which he loves to grab and undo; also any plastic toggle etc. Always has a drink and plays with his treat football as sOon as I walk away at night. Then back to haynets.

Funnily enough yes he is. :P He's just turned 7, but mentally he's maybe about 5? I swear he finds the water thing funny, he does it to my parents all the time because he gets a reaction out of them. He used to throw his food at them, but I guess he sees that as wastage now so its water instead.

haha he sounds like a right character! reminds me that my Shetland pony is obsessed with the wheel barrow! he was totally uncatchable for first 2 years I had him! but hes always chased me around the field to scratch on the barrow! try to catch him and he legs it! but follows the barrow like its his best mate hehe

Some of these are funny. I love horses little quirks.
Billy has a strange habit of opening his mouth and rolling his tongue around or sucking on his tongue.
Buster will grump at you as you take his feed bowl in then when you have given it to him he will stick his ears forward and touch you with his nose as if to say thanks

Your Shetland sound like a real cheeky little man :)

He really is a fab chap and I love him to bits. I've never had one so obsessed with the barrow before LOL

hahah my wheel barrow must be really attractive then, as Sam used to stalk me when he was a baby too!

here's Jezza the mini having a good scratch on it haha

Pees as soon as he gets into the field. No matter what time I turn him out! He wees in his stable too though, so know it's not that he doesn't like doing that :')
Is awkward to pick up his feet if you don't do them in the "right" order. He will still pick them up, but be reluctant about it.
Try to give me kisses constantly. He thinks he gets treats if he gives kisses...which I taught him months ago and haven't done since as he started assaulting me with kisses as soon as I entered his stable!!

I also have one that has to have a wee when he goes in his stable.
He also likes to play tug with the lead rope when he has his head collar on. He pulls it with his teeth like a dog does.
He also likes to groom the farrier.
I could go on .....,

As soon as I leave him, he pees in his hay..........., I have seen him do this with hay in the field, but I am told by the YO that he is a pita, I know that lol.
Never pees or poo when out on a hack on his own, will poo if I am on the ground giving his rider instruction, or in company.

He's gorgeous. I remember that song seeing I'm ancient LOL

Mine was called Sam when I bought him and he responded to it, it tend to call him Samuel as that suits him better, the girls at the yard call him Samwell or Samwise (Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings respectively)

Here's the boy :)

Ted will drink and keep it in his mouth and then drop it over you so in the summer when he drinks i leg it in the opposite direction

He pokes my mum every time she comes to see him (normally at the electric fence lol) and he doesn't seem to do it to anyone else

99% of the time when my mum comes to visit he's impeccably well behaved as if he knows before he came along she was scared of horses and doesn't want to do anything to scare her but if she breaks her routine of visiting them every Friday at 2pm he acts like a huge dick as if to say well i haven't seen you for a few weeks and I don't like this lol

Will chew his lead rope at every opportunity he has

My sister taught him to undo the velcro on her Mucker type boots and now any boot with flappy things on the side he tries to grab hold of and pull which I'm not to please with when he goes for my discontinued Hunters even if they are splitting and letting water in lol

He has recently taken to standing like a flamingo when I give him his feed in the evening & always has to work his way to the bottom of the hay bucket to eat his way up

Now that I think about it I think he's tried to groom the farrier before but pulled his head back quickly as I didn't want him to bite his butt lol

And no matter what hoof the farrier finishes on he's 99% done with the whole idea of a trim after the 3rd leg which drives me up the wall but we are
working on it :)

Ive been told that Apps are quirky and very much like Marmite but he's all Ive ever known so most things are just normal for me

When I give Billy his tea, he always picks a front leg right up, so his heel is nearly touching his elbow, and kind of digs in the air while he eats the first few mouthfuls. I used to worry he was uncomfortable somewhere, but apparently not, it seems to be his happy thing.

He knows exactly what he wants, and isn't shy about telling you. He wants to go out? Turnout rug will be dragged off the door and flung at your feet. You're not fast enough putting his stable rug on? It will be picked out of your hands and shaken in your face. If he's ready to go out he will stick his nose into his headcollar as you hold it out to put it on, or pick it up and chuck it. I once answered the phone in the stable while he was finishing his tea. I was still on the phone when he finished, so he gave me a long, hard stare. I kept talking (it was important), he picked up a brush out of the grooming kit and dropped it on the floor, looking me right in the face the whole time. It didn't work, so he did it again. I was just finishing the conversation when he decided I'd taken far too long, got hold of the edge of the grooming box, and uptipped the whole lot all over the floor.

When he goes out he always has a roll, and every time he rolls, Graham the 8 month old colt will run over, sniff the ground, and roll on exactly the same spot. Every single time. He copies Billy all the time, if Billy nibbles at the hedge, Graham nibbles the hedge, if Billy goes for a drink, Graham is right behind him, he even seems to copy Billy's leg positions and mirrors his steps when they're grazing together.

My pony has to stop 2 or 3 times at the start of a hack before he can poo, any others he can do straight away.
Both my pony and my Mini like to try to roll with their heads in the other ponies feed bowls after licking all the taste out of them.
My friends pony will sometimes when having a roll will sit up like a dog then walk his front feet around until he can roll on the other side, without standing up.

Oh yours is stunning too! I have no idea how you keep him clean though? its hard enough with a bay!

Sam gets called Samuel if he's being naughty! but I do tend to call him Sammy when I'm calling him from the field! it just seems easier to shout haha!

Sam registered name is really weird because his breeders named all of their babies after 70's songs, the year he was born! Well 4 months before I bought him my Nan died, and T-rex were her favourite band, she had one of their songs played at her funeral. I'd never heard of them before that! and then it wasn't until I went to pick Sam up that the breeder said he was named after this song! so I sort of felt it was fate that I got him! My Nan must have sent him my way :)

omg my mini does that rolling with his head in the others bucket thing too! I thought he had colic the first time I saw him do that haha

Tara likes to drop water on your head but thankfully only in summer, she also throws her feed bucket out the stable as soon as it's empty, her stable has the door and 2 windows on different sides so you need to hunt the feed bucket. Once the day before feed delivery she only had a few nuts in her feed, picked them out and then threw the bowl full off chaff out in disgust!

Pie does the water thing too. He looks so funny because he pokes the very tip of his tongue out while holding a mouthful of water. He's chased me round his stable in the past trying to dribble it on me!
He is brought in for me weekdays so I go up to feed him after work. I'm greeted with a whikker (once he'd just had a drink and went glug glug glug instead of a proper whikker which had me in stitches!) then he has to go to the back of his box for a wee - without fail every night!
If I crouch down beside him while he's eating his dinner he surfaces, nuzzles me gently on the cheek then goes back to his bucket - very cute.

When I give B his dinner, he stands on three legs and lifts one of his front legs up and almost digs at the ground but he never makes contact with the floor.
Every time he comes into his stable he has to have a wee and it's always in the exact same spot.
He has to smell every poo on the way down to the field and back up - disgusting pony
Hes obsessed with his grooming kit. His favourite is picking up the bottle of show sheen and throwing it. He also loves my tiny goat hair face brush and will pick it up and throw it to get attention so you'll brush his moustache with it.
My old horse and me had a habit / trick. If you pointed at his front legs he'd lift one and stretch it out, saved me bending down to stretch his leg out after doing the girth up!

Every day in winter I wash the mud off his hooves and he tries to drink from the hose every night...and in summer we walk a different way to the field and he wees in the same spot every day, once on the way there and once on the way back yet he never does it in winter when we walk along the track.
When you get on him he tries to put his head on your leg cause he's expecting a treat for standing nicely, but he ends up almost falling over because he's bent round so much.
He loves all food except oranges so if you give him an orange he bites it in half, spits out half and drops tother half in his water bucket and then poos in his water bucket...everytime.
And he likes to lick car windows if you put him next to one...he's a special boy!
