Just curious!

At yard everything is in as weather is so rotten, its blowing a gale and the rain is bouncing off the ground. The ones that were out were standing at gate just waiting to come in!
Except mine of course. He is out on his own in the field, has access to his stable and hay but prefers to stay out in the stinking weather!!! It's quite funny, i would have thought at least he would be under trees etc. But no, he is currently grazing in middle of the field very happy :p

So does your horse mind the bad weather? :)

Coming back from a ride today the rain was hammering it down and the wind was blowing a gale, my (supposedly) hardy cob couldn't wait to get in to her stable and she has pointed out that she isn't moving from it until the weather improves :)

She doesn't seem to like the rain :)

i am very jealous! my pathetic hot weather creatures come tanking back home at the merest hint of rain and god forbid there is a tiny gust of wind! they then stand in front of my kitchen window staring in at me, trying to vibe me into letting them into their stables, useless! i don't let them tho, they've got a field shelter for goodness sake!!!

Mine don't mind a bit of rain but if it's really horrible, wet and windy they want in
They will stand under a tree until I go to them then they will run to the gate

My mare hates this weather, managed to get her out this morning for just over an hour before the wind started to get up and she made it clear she wanted to come in. She will probably have to stay in tomorrow as we are expecting very high winds, although I will try to put my brave pants on and ride her up the lane and back for a leg stretch! The two little ones are unfazed by the wind but not too keen on the rain. Luckily, none of mine have any issues with being stabled, all have large boxes and plenty of hay.

They're generally happy munching their hay, but the New Forest is more than happy to come in if weather bad. Highland likes to come in and dry off but prefers to go out within a few hours.

Nope.

Too bad if they do, we have snow on top of sheet ice and for the last couple of days the temperatures have been averaging
-25C.

They have hay, they have water and they have shelter - not that they choose to use it.

Mostly they just put their backs to the wind, cock a leg, put their heads down and think about whatever horses think about when they aren't eating.

Levi will go out if it its not to bad (we get a lot of high /gale force and storm force wind here so no horse on yard goes out in that, yard rules)

but he will go out stand at the gate as you walk away like "what your leaving me in this!!!" then goes over to graze after 5 mins, how ever he goes out at 8 am and by 1 or 2 pm if its still really bad he will edge his way to the gate in hope some one will drag him in. He often plays the "look at me i am a little Tb all wet and cold" face to try and get some one to pull him in!! i have to add he has a rug on!!

I have a little gypsy cob who really could not care less and would be happy out in any weather, as long as there was food. My other cob, a shire x , doesn't mid a bit of rain but after a certain point he just wants in.....NOW!!

My Andalusian just sees it as an excellent excuse to have a good gallop about. He's perfectly happy out but his field is lacking in shelter or anything interesting so I can understand why a good bomb around near to bringing in time seems like the most entertaining option.

Doesn't mind being in the field in the wind/rain, but heaven forbid you ride her in it. Makes hacking impossible as she walks down the road completely sideways trying to turn her bum to it.

Mine is happy as long as he has food, whether in the field in a howling gale, or in his stable.

However once the source of food has run out, be it grass or hay, all hell breaks loose!!

Mine hates it. She doesn't want to be turned out in it, and if I have the daft idea of riding in a gale with sideways rain, she goes on strike, declaring that this was not in her union contract, and refuses to move.

It does occur to me that there could be a possibility that many horses stand by the gate in bad weather because they are expecting to be brought in, and will get fed when they do. My mare automatically stands by the gate in the evenings at bring in time, simply because she knows that's when she is brought in to be fed.

Out of interest, do the same horses stand by the gate looking miserable in summer when it rains too? And how many of those are kept out 24/7 in the summer? Just curious.

Mine hates it. At home the field gate is left open and they have access to their stables. He will herd everybody up put them all safely into their stables and then put himself in his - regardless of the time of year if the weather isn't very nice, he hates rain. If he thinks he requires a fly rug in summer, he'll run up and down shouting until I put one on him, he'll go and graze quite happily then. He lived out for three years as a youngster unrugged, but he does quite like his home comforts these days.

When it snowed, I wanted to tie him up outside so I could muck out. Could I push him out there, could I heck. I mucked out round him, whilst the spoilt sod ate his hay.

No - he hates it. He doesn't mind if it's cold, but if it's wet and windy - even if he's suitably rugged up and has shelter - he has a proper paddy until he is brought in.

Kali looks/is miserable whether it rains in the winter or the summer . . . tried having him live out 24/7 one summer and he didn't hang by the gate, but he was almost unrideable because he didn't sleep so was ridiculously tired. Incidentally, he knows what time he comes in and isn't always waiting at the gate - at the moment there is enough grass (and hay) in the field (plus company) that I often have to walk to the top to fetch him - so he's not anticipating being fed . . . he just doesn't like wet miserable weather :).

My boy hated snow and blamed me entirely if the weather didn't suit him. If looks could kill:

Forgive his yellow feathers - he was recovering from a bladder infection and due to the sub zero temperatures I couldn't get them too wet.

Nope, all of the horses at the yard are out 24/7 in summer, and most of winter, they only come in when the ground is sodden. Most are very happy in the rain, I do live in Ireland lol. Bill loves to go xc in the rain, but he is a bit strange as he likes to play in the river that joins his field. All fields have good shelter so again none want to come in normally unless it is rotten!
The ones that are out have good grass and hay in their field, even the one that is a bum to bring in normally was waiting by the gate within 3 hours of being out! And the 3 year old couldn't wait to come in!
Mine lives out completely, and only comes in at night so he won't stand fetlock deep in mud where he likes to sleep. Even then he just comes into his yard! :)

Cam doesn't mind wind, rain etc. He will reach a point each day where he wants to come in, but that is time related rather than weather related. I do send him out properly equipped though. ;)

This made me laugh, many a true word said in jest, my lot are happy being out in all weather, they don't like the current wet mud though

Mine refused to leave her stable today (field shelter with a gate) and when I eventually forced her out she proceeded to gallop round the field until I told her to go back in again. Fool! Some impressive divots all over the field now.

Normally mine are quite a tough lot, but this winter my Shetland has refused to stay out in even the slightest breeze so is in until further notice :rolleyes3:

Both babies (2 & 3) are happier inside and their mums today said they wanted to stay in too.

Sadly I only have 3 stables so their protests were in vain and out they went :)

Mine make their own choices, 4 have a bedded down barn to come into if they wish and it is interesting watching what they do. Rain and no wind they stay out, rain and wind they come in. Roasting hot they come in. This was a hot day relaxing in the shade.

The big horse has a paddock and field shelter, if he puts himself to bed and it is not raining I can guarantee it will be raining very soon, he is my four legged weather forecaster.

It's raining !
