Does your horse Neigh to you?

On occasion she'll whicker, usually so quietly that you can only tell because her nostrils are moving. However she ALWAYS whickers to my Mum (the traitor!) as Mum is Mint Lady.

Only at breakfast/tea time. I'm just food delivery service to them.

The old lad i worked with for 8 years used to though. Whenever he saw me and in the field. I only went up once or twice a week (riding school) so i don't think it was the food, it's that we used to do nice things like go for long walks and have a big fuss etc. It was lovely to think he was happy to see me. Although it was more a whicker, he had a very girly shout so i think he tried not to lol

My horse whickers every time I go to him. The other horse i had, but sold, never made a sound, even at feed times, and i think this stopped our bonding. (mind you he reared so was not the horse for me!).

The pony just about never "speaks" to anyone, my 2yo will neigh to me when she hears me getting out of bed (her stable is less than 10m away from my bedroom window!!), and my girly regularly neighs to me when I go round in the evening - when she is wanting her hay and feed....

Mr Poo is usually fairly quiet, but he will have the odd little girly scritchy neigh in the morning when I go round (he is quite poofy!!)

Yep, he always neighs at me when i come up

And always when i have his feed

Lace does to both Monkeybum and me but I'm sure it's cupboard love. Did if after only about a week of having her. Our previous pony George was very vocal - loud ear piercing shouts - at every opportunity but Prince (13hh m&m) was embarrassed to show such affection and would give little whickers from inside his box.

Scooby will sometimes do a little whicker, but he's not loud and extravagant with his affection.

In the first week or so that I had him he neighed loads, whenever I went out of his sight for a moment, but now he's chilled out a lot. I suppose he trusts me not to abandon him now! It was really cute when he used to do it though... I don't feel nearly as loved any more...

River used to be the cause of much amusement as not only would he neigh but he'd almost 'bring the house down' with the fuss he made when I'd turn up at a yard - nieghing, banging, neighing some more - this would happen every time I went out of sight and then he could see me again... But then he would sulk if I went away for more than a day, and often refuse to eat if other people fed him - he was a mummy's boy...

Luca neighs for food and has started just randomly calling to me when he sees me, but its not quite the same. Only the other day I was saying as much as I moaned about the fuss Riv created I miss it now... Its nice to know they recognise you!

Elsa nickers to me every morning. She has only just started doing this though. Its not food related as she has normally been fed already when I get to the yard. Its probably more field related as she loves going out!

Blitz talks all the time even he he just hears your voice but then he is a stallion so you do expect them to be more vocal.

Diva rarely neighs ever but Finn talks to me all the time - a really cute wuffle that he does whenever he sees me - even if I have just been to the tack room! He is the most vocal and affectionate horse I have ever owned.

When I went away for a week in the summer I got back and walked down to his field. I called him and he came trotting over neighing at me - It was one the nicest experiences

one does, purely because she is a greedy pig

one looks for me at shows though which is cute. shes really neurotic and if i leave her with someone else while i do something, she looks around, all wired and hyper, til i get back and then she does a massive sigh and chills out again! no neighing though!

Occasionally. He usually whickers at me when I arrive at the yard and looks over the door, ears pricked. If I have something edible with me, he stays looking pretty. Once he realises that I don't, he puts his ears back and glares. He is v grumpy!

He neighs at me when we go to competitions and away from the yard for lessons, usually when I've "abandoned" him in the trailer or a rented box. Oh, and he whinnies and whickers when I have his tea, and when I walk near where his feed bins are. Just to remind me not to forget to feed him

both of mine do ,
i can see both from road so on the way to taking kids to school i whisle and they call back ,when i go to feed and also when me and partner drive passed there field

Vinnie never neighs to me
frown.gif
he's not a very vocal horse. my last mare Bess used to whicker evrytime she saw me it was very sweet she was once drinking out her water bucket and startd to whicker and the water was going all up her face
grin.gif
Vinnie is just to arrogant he blanks me lol

Yes, Beth does but hasn't always, she whickers when I arrive at the yard, bringing in from the pen or field, if i've walked around the corner to get water and come back into sight...
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with insecurity but she is quite a nervy insecure horse so maybe thats why she does it so often?.

Mine must be a noisy lot then!! They both call when they see the car coming along the lane (I'm sad, I have to open my window and shout morning/evening at them!!), then when I go to catch them, and in the stable for food, and when I'm going to turn out again and so it goes on! Spyder is even more of a chatter box, he constantly whickers at me, whenever I walk up to him I get a little whicker....even if I have just been round the corner for a minute, its lovely!

Yes!! As soon as he hears my motorbike in the distance he starts calling, and especially through the gate at the bottom of the drive and that is before he see's me!! The other livery's always know when I'm on my way before they see me due to my horse making a noise. He is quiet before that. He neighs when I see him in his field and even when I'm walking up the track before he see's me. He is very vocal!!!

One of them rarely 'talks' to me but most of the time we've had her she's been on full livery (she was ridden several times a week though) just not a chatty horse. My other mare on the other hand talks all the time. Having her on DIY at university she started chatting much more. She'd call when she heard my car arrive - how she knew it was mine I don't know - and still does if I go up early to ride. If I leave her tied up and go to the tackroom etc she whickers when I come back round the corner, she even talks to her rugs! Does anyone elses do that? I think it must be because she can smell horse, but surely she knows its her smell? Always calls when we leave and come back to/from a show - VERY loadly which can be embarrassing as we pass several yards before we get to ours
smile.gif

My little baby (8mnth colt) is learning to talk - calls to his friends and his mum a bit still, but he recognised me early on and is starting to talk to me a bit.

Actually one of the nicest things, was when my mare was at the vets for a while on a couple of occaisons, I'd visit here and would walk towards her stable (head not over the door - probably stuffing her face) and all of a sudden there would be this almighty shriek and she would shoot to the front of the stable neighing! She must know my footsteps or something!

Particularly if I tie him up at Gents toilet at Darley park, I dissapear out of sight for 2 to 3 mins to go use the loo, when I come out and into sight he lets me know vocally he was ready to phone RSPCA that I had abandoded him, he does make a noise when I turn up with food at the gate ect.

mine do but i reckon its more to do with the fact they think 'oh yes! heres the dinner lady coming!' lol

Yep same here!! It's either 'time to go out' or 'Is food here then?'

All have very very different neighs tho - my 2 year old nickers at me when I groom her its very sweet!
grin.gif

Yep and has done since we first got her. Not always a sign of insecurity. She neighs when she sees me and sometimes when she is standing right next to me. Maybe she thinks if she doesn't get a treat from giving you a kiss she might get one for talking to you. She's a people person (people horse) anyway.

Ted is very, very vocal. He calls me in the morning, at dinner time, when he wants to go out or come in. Both Ted and Toby call me when I arrive after work and have tricked me into believing they haven't been fed. I feed and then my sister tells me she's already fed, thankfully they only have 'token feeds', and aren't likely to overload their stomachs. They frequently lie to me about food, I now have to clarify if they have already been fed before I go to feed!

Ted also squeals at me or my sister if we walk past him when he is eating or it's nearly dinner time. He also makes strange noises/calls quietly to himself when at competitions in the warm up arena or in the school if he's particularly spirited. Also, if I call to him in a high pitched voice he will also calls back, which I find very endearing!

He is very expressive, with his noises, he also groans when he rolls or goes to the toilet- n.b he has been checked by vet and is not in discomfort, he's just very vocal!

Big lad always whickers when he sees me and shouts when hears my car in the mornings, yes I know cupboard love syndrome!

Old girl only talks when she's in season
grin.gif
and then she talks to everyone, human or horse!

New boy doesn't yet but only had him 3 months and he was very stressed to start with, has started getting a bit affectionate now.
