Does your horse take over your life?

Just wondering how many of us are 110% involved with horses and how many of us have other interests outside the horsey world?

Seems a random question but when you speak to non horsey people they think that it takes over your whole life - agreed we spend alot of our times with our respective horses but I've got other interests outside of horses (although my equine interests probably take up the most time!)

Are there any other interests???!!!

They do take up loads of time and you have to plan your time - I do still get to do quite a lot of skiing (as the season approaches

) and every so often make the effort to go flying with hubby (if his flying buddy is not around!!!!!!)

I finish the horse by 7pm at night so I can have a social life if I want one. I enjoy any physical exercise away from the horses, it is nice to have time out

I have quite a full social life but admittedly, it does normally mean spending even more time with the horsey people that I have become friends with since having my boys!
Luckily my non horsey friends still want to socialise with me as my boys live out so i dont tend to smell of stables, lol!!

I have my neddy and thats it. All other time (away from yard) is spent doing horsey things, going to horsey venues, shows etc. Apart from that i spend time with OH go to cinema. Have friends round but most of them are horsey friends anyway!!

Oh dear that makes me sad!!

They keep me busy, but I have lots of other interests outside of HHO. For instance I volunteer, and I love scuba diving. I also go to the gym and play squash whenever I can and I also have a love of flying.

No I don't know where I fit it all in!

They do! Mon - Thurs my days consist of work, stables and bed. Fri - Work, see OH, maybe go out and Sat - see OH, maybe go out (Stables when they come in at night). Sun - Stables. So yes they pretty much do take over my life!

well they do take up an awful lot of time and i think your circumstances - financial and time, have alot to say about quite how much the take over.

i am lucky i can have someone look after my horse / bring in / turn out etc... I have recently made a concerted effort that this winter i'm goign to be more social as i htink i've been a bit lazy about getting out and about....! I did ski last year, i'm off to dubai in 5 weeks

(can't wait!!!) and next year will hopefully ski again, and perhaps one other holiday....

I think organisation is key and also being in control of how much you want to have htem be your center in life... if htat makes sence.. (she says... hoping to affiliate BE next year - i'll have no life!!)

Yes and No!!!! I try to let it not, but, horses can become very time consuming.......I'm lucky that my OH only moans rarely..and sometimes has good cause to do so...when working full time I don't like my horse to suffer, but, also my OH.....! I would like to spend more time with my water colour painting, doing, but ,of course horses!!!!

I suppose I'm lucky in that my horse is turned out and brought in and fed for me - assisted DIY.

I also work full time, see him every night (unless I'm rehearsing with my band) and find time to write and practice and gig......

Actually quite like having a full on life.....

Lets just say my OH when he met me realised he had two choices:

1. Hardly see her

2. Get into horses.

Luckily he chose option 2 despite being terrified at the time. He is now very happy with his choice, but whilst I do 5 days a week, he normally does 3/4 evenings.

Weekdays are taken up by horses, have more time at the weekends. I am the only horsey one amongst a big group of friends, so I have to make a bit of an effort else I'd never see anyone!

I wouldnt say my horse takes over my life but I do enjoy spending most of my spare time at the stables. If I had to choose between a night out on saturday or a show at 6am sunday then the show would win. I get home from the sables about 7.30pm and about 2 nights out of 5 I will go out with OH or non horsey friends. Usually out on friday or saturday night aswell. I spend all saturday at the stables but if there is nothing horsey on on sunday i will just go and see to him, ride and come home then do something non horsey. So I have it quite balanced at the moment.....but winter hasnt arrived yet and everything takes about 10 times longer then!

I work full time, have a doggy to walk each day aswell, I dont know how I fit it all in sometimes!

Well outside of horses I play in two bands, leader in three different youth organisations and show rabbits.

How do i fit it all in? Unfortunatly I dont, as I work longish hours, dont get time to really do any of it. And then have uni work to do when I get home...

Only really see horse at the weekend, but hes on full livery, and is exercised, so I enjoy spending time with him at the weekend

Yep, he is my life.

I have no time for anything else really, except work which is a necessity, although most of time spent lurking on HHO so still get horsey fix during day!

Get up, Walk dogs, Work, Yard, Ride, Gossip, Walk Dogs, Eat, Bed.

But I love it!!!!!!

Much to my OH's disgrace! I have got down the knack of getting ready very quickly if i do go out of an evening after being at work then the yard. Although I can't seem to convince the OH that I need to spend all this time with the neds, he has started to gumble less since he discovered gardening at the yard and has adopted a couple of flower beds....

Im managing quite well so far. I only have one in, he gets thrown out most mornings and brought in later on, leaving me a day of play. I have two empty stables at home, so if I dont want him to go out I can put him in an empty stable with some haylage and go...eg shopping and ride when I come back. Things go wrong when I start trying to raise my profile, which means riding Tom,Dick or Harry's horses whenever I get asked...which is irritating but when I get a ride showjumping on hunting and my fees covered then its life. Manage to have some social life after all of that though

I spend all my free time up at the yard and in school holidays I'm there all day. I go after school and ride etc most days and every weekend. I don't really goshopping (unless it's horse shopping and the only time I have a look around town is when I go to the hairdressers there.) my other free time is spent reading horsey mags, drawing horses and surfing this forum!
