i have brought mine in earlier as its very windy and dark and last night got dragged in,i would prefer them to come in later but new horse is terrified by head torches so got to get her used to it.how may of you change your horses routine now its dark so early or do you just carry on as normal

He'll definately start comming in earlier - can't bear bringing horses in in the dark. But apart from that, things stay pretty much the same. I a routine adict

My horses are moving next week, but if anything I prefer to get them in when it's either dark or light but not at dusk time, it makes them a bit spooky.

The clocks changing hasn't really affected me so much as I don't normally do them until late evening anyway, I've been feeding in the dark morning and night for at least a month or two.

Only in that I try to get EVERYTHING horsey done first thing in the morning rather than leaving anything until later. Then all that I have to do in the afternoon/evening is bring them in and put them to bed. Mine will always come in before it is completely dark, if it is really foul wet windy weather it could be as early as 2.30 for both theirs and the fields sake.

As normal - but he is on assisted livery, so he is brought in, rugs changed and fed in the afternoons. It is very nice knowing that when I finish work, I haven't got to go and find and bring in my spooky horse in the dark!

No, ours live out 24/7, Ellie has moved to her winter home today (pics in Photos!) so all we have is my cob, and two little yearling gelding hill ponies as companions. If we have to feed forage, it will be big bale hay, and we'll stick it in a round feeder. We are self employed, so organise ourselves to sort out all our livestock in daylight, although sometimes that goes wrong and I'm stomping around in the rain and dark (we have no electric light).

My hours at work stay 8 to 5 so i just have to do mine in the dark in the evening with a head torch. At least it's lighter in the mornings!

Sort of, they're fed at the same time really all through the year but won't get turned out until its light.

They come in a bit earlier too to save the fields / so I can ride before dark

Yes, I b ring mine up to the smaller paddocks for bonfire night etc and they are then stabled before it gets dark, I too dont do dark LOL, they dont mind though prefer a warm stable to a muddy feild, oh and feeding 2 times per day

Yes... I am on part livery so hes in etc butI go up to ride and finish off.The difference is that I dont hang around as am the last one up there and even with the dogs running around, would prefer to crack on and get home! even the dogs seem to prefer to be in my car rather than keeping me company..!

Same here, but went a bit later to feed, so they can get into the new time change routine asap

i just start earlier and finish earlier, and do all the jobs that can be done under electric! and hey ho roll on the 21st of dec shortest day, light to 5 ish by end of jan, and til half six by end of feb (on a good bright day!)

Well we are on everyday turnout at the mo but will soon change to winter fields which means only 3 days a week turnout so our routine will change, but for now with the clocks changing, I can ride earlier as its lighter and when i finish work later our groom will have to fetch her in before it gets dark.
