Does Your YO Charge to Bring in When There's an Emergency?

i think im the luckiest person ever :) i pay £20 a week my yard owner rug changes, turns out and brings in and changes rugs :) and if shes on the yard waiting for something she mucks out for me :) shes fab x

If it was an owners emergency e.g. had to rush off to look after sick child, car broken down etc. then I think all the yards that I've been at would have charged.

For a horse emergency when there's been exteme weather in the past and they've brought all in I've not been charged ... they also didn't charge when they had to throw them out in a hurry because the stables were on fire:eek:

Can't comment, as I rent my own place. However the way I see it (in an ideal world):

If it's YO's decision to bring the horse in in an emergency - whether to save the fields from getting trashed, from fire, flooding, whatever the case - then YO bears the cost.

If it's horse owner's decision (e.g. family emergency, late from work, major traffic delay etc.) then HO bears the cost.

Simples!

I had to leave mine in one night as another horse had broken the fencing (mine was out 24/7 at the time) and I was charged for the turnout after it had been fixed the following morning. Funnily enough she didn't knock anything off my bill for catching the escaped horse..........

We get charged if they bring in due to the hunt coming into the area too.

I pay full livery mon to fri - but always turn out and bring in because it suits me - the ym gets paid the same - but as soon as there is anything wrong vets, me having a broken leg, extreame weather, and box rest for two horses - she is the first person to just do - and does not charge me anything extra.

Whilst i am on box rest - she is turning out mine on a Sat and Sun free - because as she say's were here to help and i dont take the micky out of her - and i do enough for her by doing my own most of the time - so it works for us

I'm a yard owner and we always bring in if there's an emergency, or for other reasons depending on circumstance! Yesterday I brought in 2 horses that had been left 24/7 out by the owner in thin rugs in cold rain and who'd overslept and couldn't get up to feed them! I also fed them on my own hay, changed their rugs and won't charge for that, and I got no thanx for it either!! I must be stupid!!

Arh now you see - that is exactly when you should charge - for bring in, rug change and feeding - and i would charge her at least £5 quid a horse !

I used to be on a yard that charged double the usual bring in / turn out fee for late requests from the disorganised - a sort of numpty tax if you like :D:D:D

Yes, I was told yesterday that I should charge! I don't mind doing stuff if it's needed and going to be acknowledged! But even I thought they were taking the mick!

Put a note up tomorrow - to say that you are they YO and if in your opinon any horse has not been correctly seen to, you will do it, but charge accordingly....

and put a list of rates up - you will only have to charge once - and people will respect you - and anyway if someone wanted me to do a load of work tomorrow free gratis i dont think i would be very happy, even if i have the lap top at home and i have nothing else to do !

Now you see - for me if it were due to traffic, bad weather or illness - yes work together, but if its from the cannot be bothered school of thought, or the i want to go straight to see my new boyfriend, or i am too drunk still - then yes i agree charge- and if its a frequent thing yes - charge double/

We used to have a rule at one yard - no horse allowed out on own, and yo only did full livery no just catch in - cheeky madam would come and do her horse and leave some one else to catch in - we got wise to that after a week over Christmas and she was charged by the yo - full livery prices as she was trying it on and upsetting everyone else
