*Deleted description of horse so can't be accused of advertising - just wanted opinions of why people don't seem to want to share any more*

I am at my wits end at the moment! It is our busiest time at work - we are flat out with harvest, and the 4.30am starts and 9pm finishes mean that I just cannot get everything done that needs to be done!

I have eight horses, four fields to poo pick, and not enough time in the day to even spend time with my horses, let alone ride them! My partner is fantastic, he does the basics and makes sure they want for nothing when I can't see them, but he has lots of things of his own to do, and I don't want to keep relying on him to run about after me.

I have advertised loads, riding schools, tack shops, local papers etc - all I want is someone to help out with the odd jobs around the yard, poo picking, cleaning tack occasionally etc, in return for as much riding, competing, hunting etc that they want - for free! I would have jumped at the chance for something like him, but now people seem to want you to pay them for the privillege.

If you fancy re-locating then yes please!
Exactly what I'm looking for but Warwickshire is a tad too far away to be of any help.

eta: Hope you do manage to find some-one tho, good luck

I totally sympathise . We have tried to find someone to ride Murph whilst daughter is at uni. Don't even particularly want them to help poo pick etc, just exercise him, and the chance to compete if they wish. Had one girl who rode him for a while and did some PC comps with him (successfully) but she got fed up (I think, hasn't told me just not been near for couple of months

) because I told her she wasn't to jump him everyday but give him some hacking etc to keep him interested.

Oh dear you sound super busy

The owners of the horses I look after are the same, they are farmers and are just snowed under with work bless them.

The horses are 100 times better than my last share, in fact I can't imagine having more perfect horses to help look after, the owners are fantastic too, just very very busy.

There are people out there, it's just a case of finding them!! I found my owners through an ad on preloved, also check out ridemyhorse (google it!) which has lots of horses on there and people wanting riding. When I was looking for a new share horse I trawled the internet for hours, found these horses on preloved, then it actually happened that my hacking buddy was their instructor... small world

Deleted?? Certainly not meant to be advertising, just asking why no one wants to share any more?!?

No, not your thread, my response to someone wanting a share in northampton. The horse is advertised on another site so decided it might be forwned apon and pm'd instead.

Owner I used to ride for is having smae issue with finding a sharer. She doesn't want any money or even jobs but all she gets are real novices.

If you were near northampton I would help you out

have you contacted local riding clubs and pony club? i didn't have my own horse for most of pony club would be borrow and steal, so if you don't mind an older teenager maybe the local PC knows of someone?

zoe - just tried to PM you but you are full!!

There is some one on here that I know lives in Suffolk and is horse less at the moment so would probably jump at the chance (location provided!) but she is on holiday at the moment - would be happy to PM her to tell her to get in touch when she is back if that is any use to you?

let me know.

ETA - crap spelling!!

Just been trawling through the local community website for people wanting a rider... only found one, a four year old shire x gelding who needs bringing on... not exactly what I was hoping for but beggars can't be choosers, I need a horse to ride regularly and he needs a regular rider. I'm sure, if the owner accepts my offer, that we'll teach each other loads.

I wish I was in commuting distance to Suffolk... Caithness is a bit far methinks

Something seems to be going wrong!
It appears that those looking for rides cant find one and those looking for a rider cant find one.
I've found the same problem when looking for horses to ride in northampton area

i have to say, i have been after a rider, an no joy! no mucking out etc, with one of the mares, i am willing to even pay someone to ride her - but just cant find anyone!

I remember as a child you would happily muck out all day, fill a zillion haynets just to get the chance to ride a horse back to a field at a riding school!
