I had a really fantastic day out with the Bloodhounds today; I took a never hunted 4yo, and in a few hours he was transformed from a pony who was backing off the most tiny wall, to one who was popping 3ft6 hedges.

However I was really annoyed by the amount of aggro we got. 3 cars came past the hunt pipping their car horns, and one bypasser asked me "why I hadn't got anything better to do with my time than chasing defenceless animals and breaking the law."

It just demostrates how ill-educated some people are that they don't realise bloodhounds didn't really "hunt" to start with, and that folk that hunt are law-abiding(sp) people!

For some reason I am happier to accept this treatment whilst out with the foxhounds, even though they "hunt" legally. But does anyone else notice this behaviour out with bloodhounds, or is it just me?

I must say though, the media do put out a lot of bullsh*t about hunting and if i were them i would probs believe it ( i dont though for i am a great hunt supporter.......looking for a ride lol). I mean i believe (for somestupid reason) most of the things i read in the paper or hear on TV. As for the bad bypasser people, ignore them, they have no idea, let them stew in their own juice, one day someone willl put out a truthfull article/program about hunting (though there are a few somewhere) showing its not all blood. guts and defenceless animals and they will listen and stop behaving like total w*nkers (sorry if i have gone on a bit just need to let off a bit of steam :( )

I quite agree, the hunts need to do something to educate the ignorant that they are no longer killing animals in order to get a days sport.

Trouble is, it just takes one accidental-on-purpose kill (or one pro to boast about still killing) to undermine all the good effects of the education.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who never understood about hunting pre ban, so after it has had such media coverage during the ban, people automatically see hounds& horseback followers and put 2+2 together and sadly end up with 5...

I have to disagree on this one, I think a *lot* of people understood (and disliked) hunting pre-ban. It's the job of legal hunts to convince the doubters that they are now 100% legal.

I have been in the same situation, lots of very annoyed looking car drivers sometimes and you just know what they are thinking. I feel like saying "we are hunting a bloke you grumpy so and so, not a fox" to see what they say. I have restrained myself thus far though.
Bloodhounds are gorgeous aren't they!!

yes i have b4... i hunt with both the foxhounds and bloodhounds and have had this with both the hunts! what makes me wonder do these people not realise that beeping their horn can scare the horse's! i have had sabs trying to drive their land rover through the field of horses.. and even had one smack my pony... nice hey? well the sab got something bk.. my pony kicked, and kicked him across the road.. and police just laughed and said u got what u asked for! they did ask if i was ok!...
but when i have been with the bloodhounds.. i hav been beeped at, shouthed at it makes laugh... it must make them feel big about them selfs!

Ill-educated or lack of, and probably more so (IMO) from darn ignorance! They see dressed up riders and thats it! They are even too thick to notice what day it is... Sunday, The day Bloodhounds most generally hunt, ..and foxhounds never do!

Bloodhound hunting is little known and little publised among the general public. Perhaps when passers-by get the wrong idea you could politely explain instead of getting angry...

"They are even too thick to notice what day it is... Sunday, The day Bloodhounds most generally hunt, ..and foxhounds never do"

Why do you expect the general public to know that ?

Why should we take our time and curtious to tell arrogant people on what they dont really want to hear......just to get hurled abuse! Sorry been there tried that!
