I was emailed by mistake this morning....Doesn't this just make you cringe...

"Hi,

I do appologise if i have the wrong breeder,as ive lost all my original details, along with my mobile in a stolen handbag.I have had to result in a breeders search to locate hopefully the breeder of my dog.
Im hoping you are Kevin, whom i met in bridgend last October to collect my Huskimute kennel named 'Jake' Who i renamed 'Spirit'.The reason I am emailing you is because we are having major problems with him.I did contact you by phone a little while back when i still had your phone number, explaining he was behaving badly, and being very distructive. At that time you offered to take him back, but i decided to give him a bit more time, hoping he would grow out of it.Sadley 'Spirit' a much loved and stunningly beautiful dog,has grown from bad to worse, especially the last two weeks. He started howling the house and back yard down, constantly non stop, causing compliants to the wardens. This then lead to repeatedly escaping from the home and garden, running riot around my local village, attacking all other dogs in his path, mounting 2 different women on two separate occasions, and in both cases he attempted to attack the partners of the women,on the last occasion the husband was bitten.
He also escaped and attacked 2 dogs in the same day last week.
The police ad dog warden has told us to keep him restrianed on a chain perminantly whilst in the garden, and locked inside when ever we are out.He is continuously howling all through the night in an attempt to find a bitch. We own a pet shop and have a very busy week.Having had hardly any sleep for over a week,we are finding the strain of all this very hard to cope with.Spirit is only 15 mths old,and we feel we can not give him the life that he wants. We think its cruel to keep him on a chain, and he deffinatley does not like it,howling more when hes on it.Sadly Spirit found a way of escaping early this morning, caused more havock again, and has been taken to the dog pound. We have been asked to decided on wether we can keep him controlled,or to rehome him.The officer at the pound advised us to contact the breeder, and offer him back as a breeding dog,as they feel this is what would be best suited for him.She also told us that this cross of breed is renowned for not making very good house pets, and they dont reccomend this breeding. Please, please can you offer you help on this matter,as we are now at the end pof our tether,in much need of sleep, and desparately needing to give Spirit the life he needs."

wonder what breed the poor animal is.....

He's a Huskamute. Husky x Malamute. I've only ever met one and it was really nice...

Poor thing.

It sounds dreadful. I really can't understand how people get themselves in to a situation like this (well of course I can - but logic tells me HOW?????).

It sounds terribly under stimulated, under trained, misunderstood, neglected, god I could go on.

Makes my blood boil!

reminds me of my neighbor. They've never owned dogs before, and bought a springer spaniel puppy as their first dog. The dog is nuts

They complain about it constantly, but refuse to discipline it because they don't want to hurt him.

The fact it's mounts etc makes me tink it hasn't yet been spayed either which as far as I've always been told can help with the agression towards other dogs, mounting people and trying to find a mate.

Unless breeds like this are just prone to howling/searching for mates regardless?

Did you e-mail back?

Think it's more to do with training, education and the number of brain cells the owner has though don't you??

Is it just the cynic in me thinking they just want to pass the buck to anyone who would possibly take the poor dog off their hands and they've latched onto you?!

Also what's the bit about letting him go back to be a stud dog? He's a mongrel for goodness sake, haven't they any sense?

If it is all kosher, they are to blame as much as the breeder for taking the dog into a situation anyone with any sense should know it just was not cut out for. The breeder shouldn't have sold it to them and they should have had more sense, after all, they do run a pet shop so shouldn't be without some knowledge surely.

Sorry, SM, but people like this make me shudder and they expect someone else to pick up the pieces from their total ignorance, grrrhhhhh!

Poor, poor dog. People like that shouldn't be allowed to have animals as they plainly don't have the first idea about how to train them. I just hope the dog does find a responsible new home!

I think its a male dog and would hope it hasnt been castrated as the pound are suggesting it would make a good breeding dog....

Despite the fact it winds me up thank God they are trying to do the right thing and not just dumping the poor thing or worse.

Lets hope someone can give him a good home and soon before he gets put down.

Very similar to a sad situation we had with one of our labrador pups - he went to a lovely family home in a village, and we vetted the home and the family to make sure we were happy with where he was going. but we had a phone call within 4 weeks saying he was destructive, disobedient, bad to toilet train etc (they forgot to mention that they were actually leaving him for periods of up to 9 hours alone in the house - not the 3 hours they had assured us!)
mad.gif
They said they had decided to lock him in a cage apart from when they wanted to walk him or take him out - we were horrified at this, but as they didnt actaully accept our offer to refund and take him back, there wasnt anything we could do. It was like they had phoned to boast of their ignorance! Luckily for the pup, he managed to escape the place one day and was caught by a dog trainer up the road, who decided he was so lovely that she was quite prepared to negotiate and keep him herself. So he had a happy ending...eventually. But these people make me mad

Why get a puppy if you want a machine?

That's appauling!! Poor dog, stupid people!! They obviously haven't got a clue with what they were letting themselves in for and have done no training with him or anything.

And what stupid dog warden suggests using an ill-tempered cross breed as a deliberate stud dog?????????

Grr things like this make me sooo cross!

It's really sad too for the dog, it's not his fault he has had a bad upbringing, or at least a useless one.

Totally. I don't believe it is in any way the dog's fault, more than the owners don't know what they are doing, which is sad to see.

It is definatly passing the buck but at least they are trying to so the right hting, you would hope the breeder would have the sense and experiance to sort his troubles out.

Once again, a warning to people breeding just for the cash/because their dog is just soooo cute that things can and DO go wrong for the pups.

What a shame for the dog, he so obviously isn't happy. At no point do they mention how he behaves when they take him out for the long walks that that kind of dog would need, so is this just another case of someone buying a dog as an ornament and when it all goes wrong, wondering why?! Dogs need exercise not just to knacker them out but for the stimulation. If he's bored stiff then they won't be able to train him because his attention span will be low.
Let's just hope he finds a good home, but it will take some finding I would have thought as older dogs with this kind of background can tend to take longer to train.

Poor dog, obviously the breeder didn't check out this home very well, although it does sound as if they do have some decency in that they haven't just left him with the dog warden. What really makes me cringe is the fact that a dogwarden is apparently suggesting that a cross breed would make a good stud dog!! Maybe they just want to keep themselves in work with more unsuitable dogs.

Another case of someone buying a totally unsuitable dog and not having the first idea of how to care for it.

on so many levels

[/ QUOTE ]

My first thought. There does seem to be a trend toward "over-dogging" these days.

Pat, I think you could be right seeing as it says me name and location clearly on the advert, and neither are Bridgend (or anywhere near) and my name is certainly not Kevin
wink.gif

The sad thing is if it wasn't for the pups I probably would have taken him on, I have the time and space. Poor thing.

For a start its beyond me why anyone would keep a dog (a cross bred at that) entire if they had no intention of using it, showing it to a high level or working it.

I find it incredible that the pound thought it would be a good idea to breed from it!!
1) destructive
2) aggressive
3) untrained
4) randy
5) crossbreed (not that that is a problem - but you would spay it!)

This is very fuglyhorseoftheday.blogspot.com but with dogs! Stupid people doing stupid things!
