hi i have a JRT who has "issues" with puppies. We have a staff pup, a chihuahua pup and 2 Rotweiller puppies at my yard as well as other dogs. Now with the Chihuahua he was a bit weird around at first but got along with her. The staff he used to bully and fight with, however the Staff has turned into a tank so now my dog plays nicely with him. However it is the 2 Rottys that he has the problem with, if he sees them he will chase after them barking like crazy! They used to cower down and be scared of him so I think he did originally use this to his advantage to be the boss of them. However now they are getting bigger they are starting to fight back, but my little Jack Russel isnt backing down either! I'm worried that one day they will seriously hurt each other, but i dont know what to do to make them see eye 2 eye! help! x

Is he castrated? He probably initially saw them as prey but obviously they can fight back now they are bigger.
To be honest I would be careful, as you say he may get badly injured but as he is the instigator it is your responsibility...it is nice to think of dogs all playing together nicely but life isn't always like that and if you are busy with yard duties and cannot supervise the whole time, then the best thing is to keep him separate/in a stable/car crate/only let him out when other dogs are not there, it really isn't fair to let him bully puppies as it can cause them all sorts of problems later down the line.

yeah he has been castrated. they are the owner of the stables dogs so only come out every so often and as soon as i spot them i put my dog straight on a lead. I know it would be nice if one day they would get on but i dont think that will happen any time soon :(

i just thought id put it out there incase someone else has overcome the same problem! x

Not all dogs.....especially male dogs....are comfortable around pups.....they smell and behave differently.

As advised, if you can't supervise 100% of the time, then keep separate. Accept your dog for whatever and whoever he is and don't force him to become something he is uncomfortable with. Manage it. :)

I have one gigantic black entire male which is the daftest softest thing with pups....will lie down to meet them and let them crawl all over him; I also have a small dominant /arsey liver bitch that hasn't got a single maternal feeling in her body and will deck any pup going apart from the most brazen.....this includes rolling them over, marking on top of their heads etc etc.

I accept both for what they are and manage their respective environments accordingly when out and about.

Don't take him up there. Quite honestly, if I were the owner of the yard, I'd be tempted to ban your dog if he is annoying mine. It may get to a point where all dogs are banned because yours is going for theirs. I only take two out of my three that are guaranteed (as near as can be guaranteed) not to be aggressive towards other dogs.

I would also not let your JRT near the Rottie pups if he is going to be nasty, as you could potentially be causing the puppies to be fear aggressive around other dogs, and when they are bigger they will be big powerful dogs anyway the last thing the owners want is Rotties that attack other dogs!!

Perhaps when they are older invite the YO to walk out with you - your dog is perhaps a bit territorial now there are new kids on the block.

yeah he has been castrated. .......

.

So the magical cure all of castration hasn't worked then. Now there's a surprise. Castration renders dogs infertile, and that's about all that it does.

OP, you haven't mentioned the age of your JRT, but assuming that he's mature, and that these "TWO" Rott puppies are egging each other on, on a daily basis I suspect, the time will come when your wee dog is going to end up badly injured, and someone with a massive vet's bill.

One small JRT trying to put TWO Rott puppies in their places, is begging for disaster.

Alec.

Alec, can I point people who nag me to have my lurcher neutered in your direction, please? I am so fed up of being made to feel like an outcast when he can happily hob nob with mixed crowds of dogs while their neutered boys rage at each other and are deaf to their commands?

I've got one of each, so I am neutral :p just thought I would ask.
With the older one, it was two less things to get infected and he did calm down a lot. he had so many health and behavioural issues I would have been daft not to and he certainly didn't need to be bred from. Plus I was keeping him with his sister :o
My younger one has the propensity to be a bully, I don't think it's because he has balls, I think it's because he is a little brat. However I need a little spunkiness for what I want to do with him workwise so they are staying on.

A mate of mine has a labrador which the vet advised him to have castrated. It would hump anything which moved and much which didn't. It hasn't made a scrap of difference, except that the bloody dog's been kicked, that many times that eventually, the penny's dropped, and instead of latching on, it just stands there, going through the motions. It can be a bit disconcerting when you turn to look behind yourself, and there's this bloody thing looking up at you, longingly, and just humping thin air! It's quite funny when he meets total strangers, especially girls when they're talking to my mate, they feel a wet nose on the back of their leg and they turn round and see this wretched creature with its tongue, and other things, hanging out.

I'm sorry, and I know that it isn't funny, except that it is! :o

Alec.

Alec how old was the dog when he was neutered? maybe he is just a pervy dog:rolleyes: Ive known quite a few Labs like this owned by shooting people who are not keen on getting their dogs bits off.
