i watched the agility last night on the tele and was pleasantly suprised to see a poodle doing it !! and a whippet/greyhound sorry don't the difference!

it was interesting to see the totally different personality in the poodle though, it looked very calm when it was ready to start whereas all the other dogs - collies etc looked very exerburant and were bouncing all over the place!!

Was it a standard poodle?

Stella and I are taking our second round of agility classes and it's interesting to see how each breed reacts. There's a Cattle Dog that barks and tries to bite its owner on the way round, whereas our two resident chihuahuas need to be practically begged. Stella is somewhere in between (very agile and fast, but somewhat distracted by dropped treats on the floor

).

The best dog is a Jack Russell. It bounces five feet in the air at the starting line, over and over, but becomes very focussed once actually on the course.

I do agility with anything but a BC! LOL. I have 2 Jacks and a Wire Vizla.

Poodles of all sizes are brill, esp. the toys - they fly around, the top small at the mo if I'm correct is a toy poodle.

You'd be amazed watching some of the dogs go round, I never had Staffies down as agility dogs but boy can they shift.

Its nice to see that the other breeds are getting a chance in a sport heavily dominated by the BC.

I'm going to Olympia on Saturday and am looking forward to the agility more than the horses.

yep staffies are great my friend competes one and it does so well as its so accuate and quick!

My dream would be to get to olympia - tried the qualifiers this year and so competitive! about 300 in it- i was pleased to finished 24th!

I love the toy poodles

whippets/greyhounds/lurchers are known to be very good at agility due to the pure speed they can reach and the height they can jump. they are even known to beat a BC! (sometimes)

lurchers especially, because they can be crossed with almost anything and still be called a lurcher, often have collie in them, and these have the speed of a grey and the ability and intelligence of a BC, making them excellent agility dogs. also terrier crosses are known to be very good at agility

my ben is very quick and can jump very high/wide, he just finds turning hard due to the fact he was beaten, locked up in a cage and lost alot of muscle and hair

and because of my own joint problems i cannot compete him in agility, i wouldnt be able to stay the course.

couldnt see him doing anything like little agility comps let alone crufts or olympia, but his speed, width and height he can cover are very good, just the turning we have a problem with

What lovely photos - and LOL about the lack of brakes, my lurchers are/were just the same - loads of speed but no stopping/turning ability

Ben is definitely showing off for the camera in the second picture.

Nowhere near as high, but here is Stella tackling a natural obstacle in my SIL's garden. She reminds me of a careful cob when jumping
