Dog allergic to horses/horse poo????

Hiya,

Not sure if this is a really strange problem or not. My housemates dog seems allergic to horses!

He's 4 months old and its happened 2 or 3 times where he's been walked in a field with horses or on a bridle path and in contact with horse poo (2 totally seperate locations). About 30 mins later he seems to get a really bad allergy on his paws and goes insane scraping them on the ground, biting them and yelping. Doesn't happen when walking on footpath, only bridleway.

I have 2 horses so obviously smell of them and clothes covered in stuff all the time and hes never seemed to react to that. Going to take him to yard this weekend and walk him round the field to see if he reacts to that.

Any ideas????

Only Ideas as no experience of this:


1) Had the field / bridle path been sprayed for nettles/ ragwarts?

2) Litter on footpath/field eg glass??

3)Reaction to horse wormer if horses recently been wormed??

Didn't think about wormer- could be!

We 1st thought it was because the field had been sprayed, but there were horses in there. Bridleway couldnt have been sprayed, but he did go have a lovely roll in poo on that occasion so assumed it was something in there.

Are there any nettles he could have touched?

Sounds exactly like a nettle reaction.
