I have two guinea pigs and a dog, dog absolutely loves watching gps in their run for about an hour then ignores for rest of day. Four days ago one gp died and I bought another one because they dont do well on their own. Dog absolutely obsessed with new gp! Its the same colour as the other one, he has only seen it fleetingly when I transferred it into hutch but he spends all day glued to the window looking at the hutch. How does he know its a different one !!

what breed is he? my collie cross used to spend hours watching my g pigs but im not sure it was because she loved them, i think she wanted to eat them!!!!! i dont have any gpigs now and would love to see pics of your pigs and dog....

Yellow Dog is now banned from my sister's house (not that he was welcome there anyway  ) because he spent ages staring at the kids pigs while drooling :o  :D

I took my dog round to do my friends pigs while they were on holiday, I had one in my hand and it was in mid air between the run & the hutch when my dog lunged forward and properly chomped down on the poor pig who squealed like a, well, pig

Its thick coat prevented it from puncture wounds and it scurried & ate normally but god was I worried I'd come back the next day and find it belly up. Thankfully this wasn't the case, but I definitely learned my lesson!

My dog (well my parents dog) will lie and watch my guinea pigs in their run for long, long time. However, I have moved to my own place and she only gets the 'treat' of seeing tjem every now and then these days.

Our old dog (my first dog) used to be rather mothering towards the guinea pigs and one time my sister who was very young at the time, fell asleep outside with the dog beside her - I had a mild panic as I knew she'd had a guinea pig with her but said guinea pig was laid asleep next to the dog!!! i woukdn;t trust either of our family dogs now - the old one gets giddy and likes to chase round the cage a bit and, although good with them i KNOW he'd like to eat them!!! lol

As a six year old I used to breed bright ginger smoothcoat guineas, did quite well as they seemed in demand. My first dog however also was fascinated by them, until finally he gave in to his instinct, bit threw the ark wire and swallowed a couple head first and whole.

I don't own any guinea pigs - never have done with a dog - but my chocolate lab loves our rabbit! He will lick him and follow him around! He will though nudge him around a bit and try and get him to play but never hurts him - as far as we are aware (we never leave them alone together)

If we did get guinea pigs Dylan would probably be very curious of them but would be friendly towards them...
