Basically on the night of the 10th August I turned my horses out in their field with the sheep as I always do (Eridge, East Sussex) The following morning we discovered two sheep had been mauled to death in the field adjoining mine and a further sheep killed in our field. My horse was also lame but as he suffers from navicular so I thought this was just because he may have galloped around the field whilst the sheep were attacked. However his leg got worse and worse and the swelling and pain he was in was such that I had an emergency vet out to him. Once the vet had shaved his hair it was apparant that he had a really nasty dog bite. I asked the vet if there was any other possibility of how he got the injury and was told that it was distinctive dog bite 100%. She showed me the teeth marks and attributes it to a large dog. The injury is really rather nasty and he has had to have treatment including daily injections of antibiotics. I was also told that if the bite had been iin a slightly different place it would have been even worse so I guess I should feel grateful that its not. However I am terrified that as no-one has been held accountable I could find that my horses have been attacked anytime. Has anyone else had experiences of their horses being bitten by dogs?
