Dog attack today

How very scary. I'm glad you're ok. I was long reining my horse when he was attacked a few months ago. Strangely as he spooked away as the dog lunged for him, I found myself putting myself between my horse and the lunging dog to protect horse. Have come across that same woman and dog a few times and had some choice words. I've threatened her that if her dog so much as raises a paw that she can't control (which she can't) and comes within the radius of my whip, I will whip the dog. It's a shame as the dog is a BEAUTIFUL husky but that behaviour is absolutely not on.

Huskies shouldn't be off lead anyway - their prey drive is notorious. My husky and malamute are walked with leads attached to both harness and collar as I'm so paranoid about equipment breaking and them getting away. I did have a rider thank me once as we all crammed into a hedge so she could get past on a narrowish bridleway
 
My friend's cavapoo was attacked by a rottweiler at the weekend. The rottweiler lives on a bridleway we all use and is incredibly aggressive behind its fence, to the pint where our dogproof horses down't want to walk past if it's out in the garden. We'd often commented that we'd be in trouble if he found a way through the fence and I said I'd read that the best way to deal with an attack is to grab the dog by its back legs and lift them high as they can't get in a position to get any leverage if they're upside down but that would be very difficult with a rottweiler

He was being walked by the owner - on lead - and lunged at my friend's poor little dog, pulling its elderly owner over. Luckily, my friend remembered our conversation and told her husband to grab him by the back legs and lift and it worked enough for her to get their dog out of his mouth. The owner was walking it as her husband who normally does it was recovering from surgery but she clearly didn't have any control over him or the strength to hold him. She was incredibly upset, has offered to pay the vet bill and the dog is staying with their son while they decide what they do with him as he's clearly too much for them. They will probably try to rehome him. The cavapoo has some nasty puncture wounds but thankfully no more than that.

What an angel your pony is. One of mine would have killed them. His party trick is to go up and come down both front feet out to pound anything he doesn't want in his field. He was cut very late and doesn't tolerate nonsense like that. I'm not sure if that would have been a better or worse outcome! I hope you feel better soon, and the same for your lovely pony.

I was hoping she would kick out. My Arab would have tried to decimate them and like you I've no idea how that would have turned out.

The second dog stopped as well. My own horse does not like dogs. If they come in his field, they exit either under the fence or over it - he's not fussed. But would he be so brave if a pack surrounded him - luckily I've not had to find out. Unfortunately I feel more pressured to use a Go-Pro which I really would prefer not to do. I don't ride with a whip, but if I take him for a walk in the woods, I carry one just for protection against an aggressive dog. Dreadful that we have to think like this.

I had thought about letting her run but the ground was really stony and I worried about her falling.
I just googled out of curiosity and their average speed is 20mph 😵‍💫

I've thought about carrying a whip now but would that send them into more of an attack?

i don't blame you for that threat.
I wanted to get between her and them but i was scared they would maul me or she'd get away and they'd follow her. All I saw in my head was wolves bringing down deer - likely not the same but a terrifying image.

That poor pup. I want to say at least the owner took culpability but it should never have happened considering the dogs previous behaviour. I hope for everyone's sake including the dog it is rehomed to responsible owners.


I went to my parents house last night for a visit and felt sick at the thought of walking in. They have 3 GSDs. I have seen these grow up, cared for them all in my home and sit on the floor petting them. I wasn't sure I could step in the door! (This is the mum and 2 sisters of my own Tia).
Thankfully as I walked past the window where they all stand people watching, my stomach settled and I smiled.
The dogs usually bark as soon as they see anyone but they stayed silent until we stepped inside the house.
A 4th dog appeared and I froze before recognising it as my brothers dog (Tia's brother) and he sat with me for ages letting me get him.
The dogs usually push each other out the way and chamber onto your lap but they were all very restrained and politely asked for pets.

Tilly is very sore. She has antibiotics and Danilon and is struggling to lift either hind leg. I took Tia up with me to see how Til was with her. At first she froze but while she didn't fully relax she did ignore Tia.
I took her out to some grass while hosing her legs and she just stood there until I literally waved grass in front of her nose. Tilly pulls you to grass usually.
While she then relaxed with Tia, I didn't and didn't want Tia anywhere near her.
Tia is 10 yrs old and I used to ride and lead with the 2 of them.

Before Tilly goes out I need to getout and see dogs so I relax as this is going to be a disaster if I try to ride near them just now.

Someone has mentioned they were warned that 2 Bernese mountain dogs were on the beach on Thurs eve with a man and they were aggressive. The man disappeared with them into the same woods they attacked me. I just hope they're kept on lead.
 
Been chased a couple of times by different breeds,first time on a narrow track coming off the Downs nr. Devils dyke,pair kept circling my old pba.she was very feisty and eventually kicked out I felt the impact wasn't sorry and got home weknew who the dogs belonged to and the yard owner gave them he'll
