Dog attack

I took my daughter for a riding lesson at the weekend and took my little dog, we were a little early so i decided to take my dog for a walk up the public footpath with my two girls on the way back near the yard gate two liveries and their dog were walking out when the dog picked mine up around the neck and shook her and jumped on her badly instinct kicked in and my 14yr grabbed the dog around the neck and pulled it off while i grabbed mine. She was very very shaken and wet herself and i checked her all over and could see not obvious cuts so put her in the car and sa with her. She has been so frightend since and I have now discovered a bald patch with a small graze and bruising. Do I just give her time to stop being scared she was very timid before this!

The lady was quite rude saying i shouldnt have brought a strange dog onto the yard! even though wer were outside on the footpath when the attack happened and they were not even there when we turned up so didnt know there were any other dogs. My 3yr old was hysterical

Personally, I would not worry about a few scratches. Dogs are tough. On the other hand, try not to make a big deal of the situation if the dog is nervous of other dogs as your attention can actually confirm the dog's behaviour. I'd suggest a no nonsense approach is probably best. Avoid confrontations, of course, but ignore any nervousness (both you and the dog!) if you can.
