I need to buy two beds for my lucky mutt. One to go on a heated floor to give him the chance to get off the warm tiles, and another to go underneath our stairs which will be his nightime one I'm imagining. I will be putting his duvet on this one so he can nest in it!

He's a GSD x Rottie and will be 9 soon so I need to get something comfy and supportive. I like these

But have just seen these too, which look good! Have anyone got a silentnight bed for their dog?!

Something that looks smart (as it can!) for the one for the heated floor would be good!

I mean this look good, but OMG at the price!

Tuffies-elderly, athritic setter loves his, wish I had bought one years ago. Its an XL and huuuge.

eta I tried various orthopaedic foams, memory foam etc etc Could have bought three tuffys with the amount I wasted on other beds.

Thankyou so much for this, they look great. I think a Durasoft nest might be perfect for him, and one of the flat pads for under the stairs. My parents have the orthaopaedic one listed above from zooplus, and there's a rip in the top fabric already. As I know he's a nester I need something that might stand up to his claws.

That's the reason when we move back he's banned from the sofa, he destroyed our last one!! I'm hoping being a higher sofa he won't bother, but imagine I will spend my life putting the ironing board on it! How do you stop dogs going on sofas?! It's a case of new house, new rules.

They all look nice, but out of those four, I think I prefer the first two dog beds. Both because I think they look to be most comfortable and practical, but also because I have a personal dislike for short legged dog beds. The first few seconds when I look at the Sandringham Large bed, I almost want to drool, but then I notice how short legged it is, and I just know that it would annoy me. It is a personal preference, I simply prefer dog beds that looks like they've decided if they want to lie directly on the floor, or wants to be above the floor.

Anyhow, if you want a bed on legs, Dobiegirl posted a thread a while ago about her new dog beds, made by a dog rescue. https://forums-secure.horseandhound...s-on-my-magnificent-custom-made-dog-bed/page2

Personally, my favourite is the Swedish water resistant Biabed, my oldest one is probably about 25 years old, and it is still going strong, but sadly they only seems to be sold in the Nordic countries, and the Netherlands. http://www.biabed.com/en/

MoC we tried at the start, we did, but we're too soft, we won't be with the new sofas though, we are moving back in next weekend after four months having to live elsewhere so I'm hoping he's forgotten (he's not allowed on at my parents where we are now.)

FL - I liked the dobie girl ones, but thought the frame might be a bit big, I think I want a soft bed.

Trules, will look at Orvis thankyou.

Thanks Merlin - how tough is the cover, will it withstand being scratched, and maybe nested on?

Thanks Druid for the tuffies vote, they do look like they're up to the job!

We've got one of these for the idiot spangle: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HPXI2J6/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1
She loves it. It's the only bed she's not chewed, it stands up to her nesting - it comes with a thin duvet type thing plus she has a fleecy blanket, she rearranges it all on and off the bed to suit herself and it's really firm so for dodgy joints is brilliant.

Thanks, I forgot about elevated beds! Is it the padded mat it comes with? As they don't seem to come in a large size? I can put a fleecy blanket on it no bother though, the reduction in smell might be a great thing!

It's about a cm thick in a tough fabric so not hugely padded but seems to be enough. We've got a medium which is more than big enough for our dopey hound - it comfortably fits her and the two cats with ample space around them :)

Forgot ot say I think the one in the pic is probably a medium as well :)

I mean he always seems comfortable lying on a hard surface, but these are goood aren't they as they're firm but comformable. Thanks for the link, might get one of these instead of the lounger type - mind you the £300 price tag was putting me off the Orvis ones!

Tuffies! I got so fed up with beds going out of shape/lumpy/ unable to be washed that I finally decided to fork out for an xl nest for my 2 gsps. They love it and nearly a year in it looks as good as new. The fleece covers come off and are so easy to wash. I then bought a mattress for my older dogs crate, again brilliant! Once my pup it definitely trustworthy he will get one too.
