Apsolutely fuming.

Just taken my dog for a walk, and there is a guy with a german sheppard who was walking towards me, dog ofv the lead. My dog was on the lead and his ran towards me. I asked him to call it back, he tried, feebly, and the dog came over to mine and started barking. My dog barked back, as he is on a lead so cannot move away, and the other dog set into him. Owner still not doing anything to get it back, weighs about 30 stone so can't run. My dog was by now climging to me, and the other was pitching into his belly, so I pushed the other dog away with my foot, no force, just a push. I didn't want to get bitten.
So cue owner telling me that if I ever 'kick his dog again, he'll fffing report me!!
But his dog is out of control, mine is on a lead.
It happened the other day as well, he was about 100m away and his dog ran back, asked him to call it and he turned and kept walking, so I shouted at it loudly and it went away. Shouting this time had no impact.
I also felt threatened by him, as he was waving one of those ball thowers at me.
He then said I shouldn't have a dog I can't control, what the....

Don't worry, it's his bad, what a twerp, he's just getting in there first - just be careful about kicking/using your feet with a large breed like that, they can see it as a 'come on' and you could get hurt - try an air spray or similar.
Maybe notify the local dog warden and tell him this in case he gets lairy again. In fact, put the dog warden's number in your mobile and maybe get a few snaps of him, on the QT, if you can!!!
Love people like this, they are SO good for the image of the breed, not :(

I always worry about this with my dog, he can be lairy with certain other dogs so he stays on a lead when we are in places where we are likely to meet people and dogs, but if another dog does come up to him like that, he WILL have a go back - I'd like to think that I am in the right, because my dog is on a lead and under control, but was provoked?

That's why my dog is on a lead, he's fearful of other dogs in confined spaces, like the path I was walking along, and he will bark. Off the lead in the fields, he will never approach another dog, and he's the biggest wimp if they come near him. Whilst on a lead, he's under total control, and has never tried, ever to bite another dog, just barks. That is why I had taken him to the side and made him sit, if the guy had put his dog on a lead, he could have walked past no issue, but he made no attempt to do that, just a feeble call that had no effect. His dog ran a full 100m back to me the other day.
Thanks for the dog warden tip.

Tell him to call the police and if he doesn't you will and report him for his dog not being under control.
If a dog is off the lead it needs to be under control. I see it so often, no control whatsoever. I agree, get some pics and speak to your community police officer.

I'd call the dog warden and report him! His dog was off the lead out of control and attacked yours! He probably won't really do anything this time, but at least if something else happens in the future you have it logged as his as a problem dog.

I'm really worried though, as he walks past my stables sometimes and I'm worried he would do something to my horses

What an idiot, your dog on a lead and under control - his off a lead, out of control and attacked yours! I'd report him to the dog warden and as you feel threatened by him I'd also report him to the police.

I honestly don't think he would do anything to you horses.

It makes my blood boil when reading these posts, Im affraid I would be someones worst night mare caught in one of these situations, because I can be a nasty little b1tch when im provoked, and obs I have no fear of dogs, so will boot anyhthing that would be senseless to start on my lot.

Saying that ignore me......I just went shopping and yelled burger king down, cos some stupid biatch was in the toilet 15 minutes whilst a little boy was squeezing his legs together and I was too behind him:o (there was 1 toilet)

"I think she is taking the pish, not having a god damn pish" I yelled:o her husband was standing behind me, he also got a gob full:o
My OH tried in vain to calm me, but it was too late my full blown rant came all the way to the car park, where he also got blamed for spending too long buying present and I was in pain and cold:( (im so grumpy today:()

Ah...............so feck, I have wrenched a muscle in me chest and im more bad tempered than usual:mad:

I would have called the police on this big ignorant barsteward after calling him a big fat ignorant mother ******* pig and booting his dog about the head..........can u tell im a bit stressed and in pain today:rolleyes:

Best take a spray as CC suggests:D, and spray the friggin owner in the face;)

And breathe! :D

OP can you find a big bloke to accompany you on your walks a couple of times and see what this guys reaction is then? My guess is if he thinks you (or your "OH") can fight back he won't be so gobby ;)

Whoops, everybody give Cayla a wide berth.:p

Ihotse, I'm with everyone else, this idiot needs reporting, try and have a word with your local dog warden, and in the meantime carry one of the air sprays, they will make the dog think twice if it bothers you again.
Hope your pooch is ok.

If you see this person again and he says anything about reporting you, just turn round to him and say" That's alright I've already done it"

Report this person for having a dog out of control and dangerous. This should not be allowed to continue. You are in the right and he is in the wrong.

Cheryl Cole on Speed stricks again :D
Sorry hun x

Will say if a big Large dog came towards my Girls like that I would be in front making my self as big as possible and if it kept coming give commands ie sit stay down if they didn't work then sorry CC it would be a foot in the ribs or try pinning down but hey I do have a death wish and live but the saying protect my own :o

If you meet this lovely bloke again tell him put your mutt on a lead if he refuses then call the police and don't warn him .

This is what makes me mad my Girls have been taken because of the DDA and there are owners walking around like this!!!!!

I haven't read all the replys but I would be tempted to get one of those football airhorns, and give the dog a blast of that, soon stop it in its tracks!

True, but if it saves your dog or your self getting attacked I would be useing it, I have used them around my dog and it didn't freak her out, and it would be a good idea to get them used to it first, I have used them around my horse in bomb proofing her, she takes absolutly no notice of them now, good for cars who go driving around the lanes blasting thier horns at every corner in stead of slowing down,

What an ignorant a$$. You shouldn't have a dog off lead if you can't keep it under control! You've every right to defend your dog if you ask me. He's in the wrong, not you!

God, some people are so ignorant!

Ok, update!!
Reported incident to police and they have said it's not a matter for them, so to report it to the dog warden. They have, however, logged the incident as he was acting agressively towards me, and for any future reference.
Thanks for all your advice and support, pooch is fine, he's a tough dog so no damage done, but this is why he is nervous of other dogs in the first place!!

Well, have avoided the woods today as we have snow and all the people of the town will be there sledging as it's the steepest hill around!!!
So taking him up to the stables on foot in a mo, and if I see the nasty little (actually rather big) man again up there, I'll tell him to get his dog on a lead or I'll have him for aggravated trespass for worrying my horses!!! My fields, I can walk my dog in peace!!

Police won't want to know tbh, complete waste of time contacting them, I have personal experience of this. Go straght to the warden

Sort of a good idea but that would scare the hell out of my own dog if I did that, maybe the air cans the others have said about
