just typed this out once and then lost it so apologies if this post appears twice!

I am desperate to find a really decent behaviourist/trainer - have tried several so far but they don't seem to know very much more than me and certainly haven't inspired or produced results. Plus have given me conflicting advice - so much so that I'm no longer sure what to do for the best

Have an 18 month old rescue collie x whippet who has ishoos. Most pressing one is the chasing and nipping of joggers, which I need to resolve - he has a strong chase instinct.

He has other problems (some occasional nervous aggression, can be very vocal, recall is a bit patchy still) but the joggers is the most urgent to fix.

any suggestions re someone that can help me?

any advic

Keep him on a lead in places where there are joggers, until you have it cracked!

Has he any ball drive. If I see something likely to be of interest to my young dog, I get a couple of balls out and keep him occupied that way until it passes, redirect his chase onto something else.

Anybody can label themselves as a trainer or behaviourist these days, there are a lot of plonkers out there, take care to pick a good person who will tailor a solution to your particular dog rather than one who insists their system works on ALL dogs.

ha ha, i would certainly agree with you re the plonkers! - is dreadful really as seems you can do a distance learning course or something and then say you're qualified.

i am going to try and set up some situations with willing victims (joggers) and see if i have any luck. It's difficult to know what motivates him (other than chasing things!) - ball works to a point, and food to a point, but if something better comes along it's easy to lose his attention.

thanks

Try toys with squeakers (the space hopper ones are class!) and balls on ropes which you can keep 'live' and active and moving, a ball in your hand won't be over exciting to a lot of dogs

thanks - yes we're not too far from Reading, maybe we should try them, they might be able to suggest someone even.
