I was bitten by a Springer Spaniel in a shop when I was a kid. The owner had told me not to touch the dog because he didn't like children, but I ignored him and the dog nipped my finger. The owner was mortified and I got a smackfrom my mother for not doing as I was told!

As a child I was also bitten on the hand by our own dog whom I was teasing with a biscuit. My next door neighbour got bitten by our dog in the same way when she was teasing him over the fence with food. Again, as far as my parents and hers were concerned it was our fault for teasing the dog.

Finally, I got bitten across the arm by my friend's elderly Great Dane as I jumped over him and ran up her stairs. He'd been asleep at the bottom and I startled him I think.

He had me pinned on the landing with my arm in his mouth. I was terrified. As luck would have it I was wearing a heavy duty wax jacket and he had hardly any teeth or strength left so he didn't really hurt me. Hannah still had to prise him off while he breathed down my neck.

So that was a Great Dane, Rough Collie and Springer. For some reason I don't mind the former 2 breeds but can't stand Springers!

Never badly, our dogs at home when they were learning what the limits were, and by a dog with a broken leg who was scared out of his mind, so can't really blame him! My worst bite ever was from a horse - he was new to the yard and had obviously been mistreated, beaten over his stable door etc. Going in towards him he was fine, but as you went to leave he would lunge at you. One day I was distracted as I walked past his stable by one of the kids (normally gave it a wide bearth, or made eye contact etc, and before I knew it he had lunged over the door and picked me up by my boob in his teeth. It was sheer agony and I still have a little lump of scar tissue (collegues are now wondering why I am fodnling my boob....)

Ive never been bitten thank god, and i used to work at a vets and in a kennels, but my moms friend had her top lip bitten off (literally) by their own collie. He had bitten all the family before and it turned out all his brothers had turned nasty. Not suprisingly they had him PTS. It took months of plastic surgery to correct the physical scares, she is very 'looks' concious anyway, and obviously is very corsious of dogs. She is ok with mine now, after about a year, he did help alot!

Just been reading back through this post - can't actually see anyone who has actually been bitten by a rottie or any of the bull terrier breeds? Lots and lots of collie bites though..... Very interesting survey!

was nipped by our old dog when I was a toddler for trying to take her food from her, asked for it really lol! Was bitten by a neighbours mini sheltie when I was young, it always used to growl at me and was really aggressive. I have a scar on my face from it. He was called Shadow, and I have grown up with a fear of lassie dogs
