Does anyone have any ideas to help get two elderly midium sized dogs into a car?? I have seen the ramps and steps but they are fairly expensive. Any other ideas or any ideas of where to get the ramp/steps fairly cheaply?

Thank you

Could probably ask OH dad but he already empties muck trailers, tops fields etc so feel a bit bad asking. My other half would be pants at anything like this but he does have a friend who might be able too!!.....

My ramp was about £120. I was  about the price but it has been well worth it. It is a heavy duty one and folds down. It has lasted 6 years so far and with two Mastiffs i think that is pretty good. My old Mastiff managed it until the last few days of her life although in the last year she needed a shove up the bum to help her. She hadnt been able to manage steps/stairs for some time prior to this so IMO a ramp is the better option.

The problem is it takes a bit of training, but then so will steps. I am not sure how older dogs would take to it.

I wonder whether one of those plastic mounting blocks might do the trick? You would need to consider where to put it once travelling of course.

They are sometimes on ebay if you want to look.

You can get little plastic step stools that fold flat for about £20. Might be worth a try before getting creative ;) and if it doesn't work they always have a million uses in the house / yard anyway

I got a ramp from Robinsons, it's not hugely robust but gets a 26kg husky into the car. It then folds in half and pops on top of the crate, best thing I ever bought for my old dog. Not hugely expensive either, think around the fifty quid mark!

Have you got an old mounting block hanging around??

We used mine for the old ridgeback and I know for a fact we have alot of broken sets at work (the rubbish plastic ones dont withstand much kicking / standing on etc) they arent good enough to put wobbly novices on anymore but they withstand our weight to use for other things :)

I got one of the heavy duty folding ramps off e bay for around £45. Depending on the dogs problems I would imagine a ramp would be better than steps, it offers a more gradual way of getting in.
