Dog chases seegull over 300ft clifftop - Good outcome!!!

This was on our local news the other day, yes a good outcome for this dog but not for the NewFoundland who went over a couple of days earlier and died.

I just cannot get my head around people who have dogs off leads with a 300ft cliff nearby. Its sheer lunancy imo.

I always understood that dogs can't judge height as we do which is why so many do fall over cliffs etc. I have to admit to paranoia about this and mine are always on lead near any sort of drop.

It makes my legs go funny just thinking about it.......

Poor Newfoundland, so tragic.

Glad its not just me. This picture was taken at a well known beauty spot.viewpoint locally, its a bit murky but think you can see it is high. You would be amazed how many people had dogs running off lead (not ours as you can see) made me go quite cold.

Is is really bad that this made me REALLY laugh?! I can just see my dog doing this - and can picture the "oh my god!" moment on her face!

Poor dog, anyway, and thank god it had enough calm to swim to shore!! And poor newfoundland, WHY would you have your dog off a lead here =[

OH and I were having a conversation about whether dogs "know" there is a steep drop near them the other day as there is an old gravel pit we walk past (drop of about 15ft I guess)

Spangles will be at heel or on leads every time we pass it now

Poor Newfie

That is about 2 miles away from me.... and is exactly the reason I will not walk Bruce anywhere near the cliffs - there are so many other lovely SAFE walks around here and although Bruce has good recall I just wouldn't trust him. I did read about it in my local paper and was so sad that the other dog the RNLI had been launched to rescue didn't make it.
