Dog crate sizes

I've never used a crate before but am thinking about buying one to use for overnight and for short periods during the day for an outdoor dog that is about to become an indoor dog. I want to work on house training and also keep her free from any household hazards whilst she gets used to living in a house.

Crates look small to me, maybe because I've never used them and I was considering getting an extra large one rather than the medium her breed would indicate. Are there any downsides to using a larger crate? I have the space and the price difference isn't an issue. I thought to leave a bed plus water bowl in there, and maybe a toy or two if she likes them.

I always use a crate that it at least a size to big for the dog unless it is for travel and then it needs to be the right size to be safe.

Thanks. I'll also be using it post neutering for a bit, so I'm inclined to get a larger size.

Just make sure you make it a fun nice place to be and don't lock him in it right away.
