Dog cruelty at Badminton?

Another place they want to ban dogs...no wonder they get so badly behaved they are never allowed to go anywhere to socialise.They either have to be left in the car or at home.
 
Well I took my 2 dogs (staffies) out with me for the entire day and like Honey08 it was perfectly easy to manage. They both had collars and harnesses. I also (wait for it) had them on extendable leads. This meant at some points of the course I was able to wander off and let the dogs stretch out as well. We also took some breaks in the shade and they were frequently watered. I lost my friends countless times (honestly) due to being stopped by people who wanted to stroke them and I had no problems with people stepping on them or getting tangled in their leads. Yes I took them knowing this would severely curtail my shopping (no bad thing) and I would not be able to wriggle into the real depths of the crowd but I really enjoyed having them with me and they certainly enjoyed the attention. So don't tarnish all dog owners with the same smears - and as for dogs yapping, heavens, how about shutting up the crowd nattering as well? The only real pain for me is that I had to lug their water bottle around the course and we did stop at the huntsman hollow as by that point, they had finished the 2 litre bottle I had with me. I didn't turn my nose up at the screaming children, pushchairs, idiots spouting total c**p to show off (bet none of you knew that Burgley is run over 23 mins and Badminton is an easier course at 12..) - its part and parcel of being one of over 120,000 people enjoying a day out and a little bit of thought ensured a good day out for all.
 
i have just watched it as i have been out sj all day and spotted the women kicking the dog and giving it a good wallop on the head!! felt like giving her a good clonk on the head!! completley unecessary!
i wonder how many dogs ended up in cars in this hot weather!
 
Tbh I think it would be sensible to ban dogs at most equine events (especially near XC where it's very easy for a dog to end up chasing a horse!) - think, the riders at the top of their game should, in theory, have a better chance of controlling their horses, whereas at lower levels, with more novice riders & young horses?! Not a risk I'd enjoy really...
Yes, we /have/ taken dogs to equine events in the past, and never had an issue with our own dogs (although occasionally had issues with other people failing to control their own!) but if dogs were banned from equine events, neither myself nor the dogs would bother I'm sure! :p

i dont doubt that you did look after your dogs well and were considerate, there are plenty who are but there are plenty who arent and also put you and your dogs at risk. its not that i would want your day ruined, i just think its safer if not dogs attend.
PS - i might have stolen your staffs if i'd have seen you, i love them :D
 
I didn't see the person kicking the dog but we were stood at the lake in the afternoon and a group of people were having a picnic next to us, they had a little terrier type dog with them who was sat on the picnic blanket, one of the women was eating a hamburger, she put it down right in front of the dog whilst she went rooting through her bag for her mobile which was ringing, the dog then started to lick the hamburger she saw this when she had retrieved her phone from her bag and them promptly slapped the dog across the face and when I say slapped I mean REALLY slapped it hard knocking it sideways...

It made my blood boil and I just couldn't keep my mouth shut, I said to her "How would you like it if I put a meal down infront of you and then proceeded to slap you right across the face?" She just looked at me and went bright red! I felt so sorry for the little dog.
 
Just put the kids and dogs on leads and keep them under control!
There, problem solved!

I was actually amazed at the amount of babies and I mean BABIES days/weeks old that were out.
One in particular was no more than a month old, short sleeved dress, white arms and legs and head slowly cooking while dozy parents sat and enjoyed their picnic!

I palmed Bubs off to her grandparents with the promise of a picture of Mary King if she was good!
I may take her next year when I feel she is older and more likely not to whinge and moan and annoy me and others! :o

Dogs should definately be left at home... it is not illegal to leave your dog at home alone... it is kids ;)

l do understand that it is difficult with children but wouldn't it be better to just give things like this a miss until they are old enough to enjoy if for themselves? I have no problem with older children being there, I used to love going to HOYS etc as an 8/9 year old. It's just when they're so little they run out of steam at 12 o clock and grizzle for the rest of the day that annoys me. Clearly they aren't enjoying it and nor am I so who is??

I'm sure I'll change my tune if I ever have my own though!!

Eh?! I've never dragged my dogs round a major event (I'd consider it blooming mean to do so!) and yet they are as perfectly socialised as you could ever hope for.

Jeez! Some people need to take some responsibility for their animals :rolleyes:

Especially when they come and stand in front of me when i'm sitting by a fence and completely obstruct my view. But hey, it's ok, because they are kids, and they REALLY NEED TO SEE.

Or when their really annoying parents put them on their shoulders and push to front of the water jump so 10 other peoples views are obstructed.

Or when they throw themselves on my dog without asking if he is safe to stroke (yes he is, but you just woke him up with your sticky hands, so no wonder he jumped a foot in the air.)

I would never take my dog to a horse event, i would rather be able to do my own thing than look after a dog and make sure it behaves.

i dont think Dogs should be allowed at events at all.

Yeah ok, that's extreme. However, probably not as bad as some other have it! OH and I were walking our 100kg Am Bull (not to be confused with a Pitt) when he came across a group of youths with a pitt bull, as in a proper pitt bull about 70kgs, not one of those hippo show creatures in America. It was being slapped round the face and they were putting cigarettes out on it, winding it up. As they spotted Tatty Bear, they let the creature off the lead. There was also a family walking their spaniel pup with 2 small children. Father got puppy and kids in the air as this thing tried to get at pup and it set it's sight on Tatty.

OH let Tatts off the lead (so she could have some chance) this thing came straight at her, he managed to slip her check chain over his neck and restrain him. The Police were called, the lads scarpered and it took OH and 3 members of dog team, 4 poles to get it in the van.

I spent the whole thing hiding in a bush like a wimp with Tatts sat in front growling!! Makes you wonder what the hell it had been thru. Dog team were appalled at it's condition!! I'm sure that pooch is prob normally pampered and cared for but for whatever reason, idiot owner lost control for a minute, we're all guilty of it (although I can say I have never kicked my dogs in the face)

How terrifying! i would have hidden too. poor you and poor dog. I know there are others who are so ill treated. but yeah i wouldnt kick my dog in the face either. i hope someone does see it and give the person a ticking off, but then thats a long shot.

I would never take my dog to an event, and he's one of the best behaved dogs you could meet. I can't understand why anyone would WANT to take a dog to something like that.

In theory I agree with this, but to imagine the elderly stewards at each fence sitting with rifles to shoot unruly dogs doesn't bring up a good image in my head. It would result in a member of the public getting shot and Badminton getting cancelled!

Our smallest lab who hasn't been with us that long, thinks that its fun to run around the fields with the horses if they run, so yesterday he had a collar and a harness on just in case. He was perfectly behaved, but we were covered if he wasn't!

Oh yes! There's always people who tell their children to go ahead and wriggle in front of you :mad: despite the fact you've be standing there some time waiting for a front row view :rolleyes: Oh and in my case, the children are usually taller than me :o

Because its a good walk, in a lovely park, where they get to sniff lots of smells and other dogs, and they wag their tails off all day long??

Obviously thousands of dog owners, BE and Badminton are quite happy about it.
 
I have taken my dogs to Badminton.

I LOVE seeing dogs at Badminton.

But I can't deny that some dogs are a liability being there and would welcome them banning dogs at Badminton. It's true that it's sad to see a minority spoiling it for everyone - but prevention is better than cure. The day a dog, spectator, horse or rider get hurt because of an accident caused by them being present, will be too late.
 
I've got an idea, lets just ban EVERYTHING, then we'll have more time to bitch and complain about stuff on internet forums. :)

Good plan! Let's just shoot them all, first the dogs, then the kids, then just generally annoying people (actually, can we start with them - that could take me a while).
 
I dont think dogs should be allowed either and if they are your should have a safty clip attached to you for incase you drop the lead then the dog is still attached.

Also i should think looking at the clip of the dog it got a smack due to the yapping and barking when the dog came past.
 
I couldnt believe how many people dragged their dogs there, they were everywhere, Cant people leave them at home for one bloody day!? I lost count of how many dogs i tripped over, stood on and got tangled in long leads. It really wound me that people are so irresponsible to take their dogs to such a busy event.
