I had a phone call today from Kathy at the West Yorkshire dog rescue, asking if we could home/foster a large racing dog, 3yrs, not a greyhound, but can't remember the type. Said to be a nice dog. Needs a home with someone who is about a lot, and who doesn't have cats. The dog is in Gloucs, but will be being PTS tomorrow - so the Yorkshire dog rescue are going to go for him. We have just taken on a second lab and an old cat in the last month, in a two up two down, so can't take him, and the rescue don't have kennels - just fosterers, who are all full up.

Anyone able to help - pm me, or contact Kathy from West Yorkshire Dog Rescue...

Thanks,x

Right, you really do need to be careful with the taking/passing around of dogs with "little description" on the forums these posts are usually place "rescue type forums" there is always or in most cases back up, this is to give the dog back up if someone takes it and it's not what was described, i.e behaviour wise, I have taken 4 of these types of "helps" and the dogs had serious issues (fine for me, I sorted it and dealth with it) I had means to do what needed to be done, now the normal joe public would not, and its a stressful situatio n to be left to cope with a dog of little background with no help.

If there where pics so we could better determine breed? is sounds like lurcher, obs not a racing dog, as it would be grey or a whip, and a better description of the dog/behaviour, to try and place it where it needs to be.

Sorry, Imnot putting a dampner on things, (I deal with rescues all day long) it's never all cut and dry, im sure that pound also used the rescue forums so it's likely he is also on them, but if I could see a picci and deterimen breed I may be able to better help.

Sorry if I'm not following protocol - not usually my thing, its just a rescue place that we applied to for a dog in summer rang out of the blue in a panic trying to find a foster home for this dog... Thought I was trying to help, thats all.

She did tell me the breed, but its nothing I'd ever heard of, and I was out with my dogs, so couldn't write it down. She said it was a race breed, very pretty type, that could be the size of a greyhound...

I don't know much. The rescue would tell you more if you can help. Obviously I wouldn't expect someone to take an unknown dog. As I said, if anyone can help, pm me and I will pass on the no of the rescue, if not they could contact the rescue via the website. Then they will get a better description, not my "little description"!

As I said in the original post, the rescue DON'T have kennels and rely on vols who look after the dogs until they're homed. You'd be best speaking to them really - as I said, I'm nothing to do with them, just trying to help save a dog...

No probs, I know where u are coming from:), could u contact her again and say "you may bebale to get help" can she tell u the breed again and ask if the people who have the dog now can supply a picci?
Obs it's headed for yorkshire, not a million miles from me, If I can help I will, if it's a lurcher, we rehome them pretty quick, we to have no kennel space but I can put the dog on the site if I got a description and pic.

Hi,
Just been on the phone to the lady at the rescue, and thankfully they have a foster home set up, and a reserve, so the dog should be ok. The dog is a salkui, if you know what one of those is. I'm off to google it! Thanks all.

The saluki clubs are usually very helpful but the welfare websites seem to be down.
Worth giving the NSC secretary a call though.

Yep, gorgeous dogs, usually get snapped up when we have them in, glad it's sorted.:)
