Hi, anyone found the dog drinking fountains helpful? My dog will barely drink any water at the moment. Had blood tests at vets and all results were, in her words, excellent. He loves goat’s milk with water and will drink a bit of chicken gravy and water (I only give him this occasionally) but not very keen on that. Anyone else had this problem and have any tips or advice?

Not used a fountain but I've had this issue with mine and he is prone to bladder stones so I monitor regularly. If you're concerned or just want to increase water consumption, you could add some water to his food as well as to the goat's milk etc.

My dog is quite fussy with water and even if there's the smallest amount of dirt or dust in it, he won't drink it, so cleaning water bowls and refilling regularly has helped.

It makes a difference depending on the type of food you're using. If feeding wet food as opposed to dry, then there will be moisture taken from that. I've also tried leaving a bowl in the garden to fill with rain water as some dogs prefer this, but not mine!

He now has bad constipation again. He was at the vets about 4 weeks ago. He is on processed raw food, soft, wet food. Sometimes he has about 10 small biscuits of Lilly’s Kitchen. I am leaving the milk and water when I go to work, someone is always back at lunchtime, me or dog Walker, and when I get back then he hasn’t always drunk it. I think he just falls asleep. He’s now been awake all night so far and is obviously uncomfortable, am about to ring the vets again.

What is the percentage of bone in the raw food? The higher the bone content, the harder the stools will be. Roughage will also make stools softer (tinned pumpkin, grated carrots). One of my bitches prefers rain or stream water to tap water.

Mine was fussy about the type of bowl so had to try a few, would eat from metal or ceramic bowls but not drink from them, oddly a plastic food mixing bowl kept her happy. Also as above look at how much roughage in her diet, butternut squash is easier than pumpkin to get all year round in UK but must be cooked.

Mine's raw fed and when he was younger he rarely seemed to drink, even on hot days - he seemed to get what he needed out of the food. He's 8 now and generally has two drinks from the bowl a day.

We were back at the vets again today (he was last there late Sept). Vet said his stomach feels nice and soft so she thinks he has hurt his back, he seemed sore but thankfully she can’t feel any sign of a bulging disc. He was awake all last night and I only managed a few hrs sleep. He’s on painkillers (allowed to have 3 today) and he finally fell asleep about 30 minutes ago. I managed to get him comfy with a cushion to lean on. He finally looks peaceful after 24hrs with no sleep. Gonna have a little tear for him. ? bless him. Love that little guy so much ?
I am mixing water with his food and for the next week he’s on a gently cooked wet food with water, which he loves. He’s a very fussy eater but loves this wet food thankfully. I need to have a think about his travel crate as he goes and has to turn round. Need to look for something else if I cannot get him used to going in through the door on top or going in backwards.
