Hi all,

Wondering if you guys have any recommendations for a dog robe/drying coat?

Old lab has one for after sea but pup now needs on as she’s discovered she’s truly a fish in disguise Lol & is 8 months this week!

She has been wearing old labs one but she really needs it as has thicker coat so takes longer to dry off even with toweling!

obligatory pics!

I liked your pics..three water lovers,smashing.
the old lab looks like she could lose a lot of her undercoat..do look at the Mars (or similar)rakes for this…she’d dry a lot faster..

I’m always amazed how much coat comes out before I strip my schnauzer.
I really makes a difference.

not my dog ..but you get the idea.

Old lab’s coat has changed this year, it’s short and soft at the sides but curly and harsher at ruffle and top line! Think maybe the joint tablets we’ve started her on as she’s 10 & I have been feeding her and the pup salmon oil in their food too. She’s also lost a fair bit of weight that she needed to shift since getting the pup lol
I use a furminator on her and usuallly get a lot off Every time but dont groom her enough i know, I’ll have a look at that comb, thank you!

I wouldn't use one of those rakes on a labs coat, they cut the coat, as there are sharp blades inside the 'hooks' of the rake. That really wouldn't be good on a labs coat

a shedding rake has no blade….it is not like a furminator which has a blade and will cut topcoat.
these shedding blades remove dead coat and undercoat.
in the Mars link the” blades” are the teeth of the tool, but there is no cutting blade per se.
Here’s a lab demo, using an an undercoat rake..another name for this tool.

ETA Bellasophia. I can't keep up with your edits. Did you say it did not cut the coat?

i believe the “cutting “they speak of is to” cut” through mats…these type of rakes do not contain a cuttingblade .
I have a schnauzer..I strip my dog with stripping knives.I would never cuse a tool which cuts the coat eg furminator. This is my dog in the pic..

the shedding rakes are useful to get undercoat out, especially on an unruly coat. I find it useful on her legs to get out dead coat.
Have you ever used a shedding rake? did you watch the video above( ancol shedding rake) …I actually have a croci rake…none have blades..the teeth are called blades…there is not cutting blade in them.
in the pic of my shedding blade the ten hooks are called “blades.”

Me?

Are you talking about these?

"Undercoat rakes have many small, sharp, curved blades set close together that remove undercoat. They are available in a variety of tooth widths, making this tool suitable for a wide range of breeds. On shedding breeds, they can remove dead, fuzzy undercoat in minutes, yet leave the top coat shiny and healthy. On harsh-coated dogs, they mimic the hand-stripped look quickly and easily."

If so, the answer is no.

I think OP would be able to groom her lab satisfactorily with a zoom groom followed by buttercomb without the need to use any sort of blade.

I actually used one of these tools on my friends newly adopted brown lab,she had been very neglected and her brown coat was matted in the thick undercoat thigh and neck area and ginger patches were all over her coat( dead hair)..the tool removed these ,it took several goes to get her back ,but we’ll worth the effort.

Only me….sorry to derail your thread..but these tools really do work.

I use the Marsgrooming coat rake on my elderly donkey who gets a very thick and uncomfortable winter coat, and believe me it does cut the coat as well as rake it, If I use it at a certain angle the teeth do act as cutting blades, you can see the coat is actually cut through not just raked out old coat and undercoat. It works wonderfully on him to keep him comfortable. But I would never use it on my dogs coat for fear of actually cutting the coat rather than just raking out loose old coat hair with a Furminator.
