My little dog, eats his food when he fancies it, sometimes its twice a day today he has only eaten meal. He is on Wainwrites, dry food and wet meat, about a 50/50 split, which is still nowhere near the manufacturers guidelines. He is fluffy so he looks bigger than you think, but a friend felt him today and comented he had no extra meat on his bones, any suggestions (other than raw) that is highly palatable, or am I just being a worry wart!!!

The manufacturers guide comprises some words written on a packet or tin or bag, the manufacturer does not know and cannot see your dog. If he is a good weight/condition/in good form, I would not worry. Lift all food after ten minutes and offer fresh stuff later, do not train him to be picky x

Remember a lot of people are so used to seeing fat dogs they do not know what a fit one looks like. You can take him to the vets to get weighed if you are worried.

He was weighed a few weeks ago and at 6.5 months old weighs about 7Kgs, he is a Bichon x King charles spaniel. There are so many fat dogs but Im pleased to say both my parents dogs are fighting fit, so mine will follow that trend.

Personally, I woudln't worry about it unless you can actually feel pin bones, hips ribs and point of shoulder really easily. If you feel him (especially when wet) and you can feel the faint outline of his waist and you know he's got ribs, I would say he's about right. He's a young dog and they go thru weird growth spurts and while you don't want him to be a rake, I wouldn't like them to get fat either. He just might not be a greedy dog.

Henry is slim for a terrier think more whippet. He sometimes skips breakfast if he's just not hungry but I don't worry. If pup is healthy and has plenty of energy he will be fine some dogs are more self regulating and tend to stay a nice weight.

Is he CKCS cross or a King Charles cross bichon? If the former 7kg sounds normal but if the latter he is quite heavy.

that's actually a very good point. I was reading that as seven pounds! My BT who is full grown weighs about 7 kg, and he's a real solid chap (borders on being tubby at times).

My poodle who is 15inches tall weighs less!
