I am about to make a big purchase of new sofa and chairs. At present I have leather which is dark brown and quite depressing in a small room.
Cant decide whether to go for another leather in a lighter shade, or a fabric one, which is a more striking design shape. With the leather, it does wipe down, but a throw slides off it all the time if I want to use one. Bit sweaty in the summer. A fabric would need regular cleaning, but a throw would stay put, but would hide the furniture. Whats the H&H view ? (Dogs will not be banned from the furniture, they would be mortally offended after all these years !)

Id still go with leather, its much easier to wipe. Cant say re dogs ,ours isn't allowed on the furniture, but would say if you have a small room go for a sofa with legs, the more you can see of the floor the bigger the room looks.

Thats the other problem, what colour leather will I choose ! It does seem ridiculous to tailor the furniture to the animals, that
also follows through to the colour of the carpets :D

I hate leather so we have fabric but dog not allowed on it. Our fabric one has washable covers though so that might be worth looking into?

I hate leather - for all of the reasons above! SO i have a Dark Blue fabric sofa and looks great after 2 years even with 2 dogs sleeping on there

I’m too scared of fabric. Mostly due to my toddler more than the dogs!
You can get light browns and beige. Personally I like dark chocolate colour even in a small living room. We ended up with second had black one but everything else is colourful! We did used to have a red leather one- a hand me down, not my choice, but it livened up the room!

I started a thread about this not so long ago and there were some really helpful ideas - I’ve gone with keeping to leather, but I’mintending to buy industrial cotton dust sheets to go over everything, they can be easily and quickly washed and you avoid the problems associated with leather!

I got fed up with putting throws etc back as they kept slipping ! Done a lot of trawling round the net and find designs much of a muchness, all chunky which looks too big in my small room, but I do like a broad armrest for my books, chocolate etc ! Ive been toying with the idea of an oxblood colour leather instead of dark brown, not quite red like pippixox. Need something I can actually move myself too as present stuff is sooo heavy ! Actually like some designs on DFS website but not very good reviews unfortunately.
Must have room for at least one dog too. Anyone got one of those snuggler armchairs ,they look quite good, bit bigger than an ordinary chair, possi room for small dog !

Next sofas are fab!! Can't fault them or their customer service!
Mums had 2 sofas, 2 snuggles, 2 chairs, 2 puffs and a bedsofa.
I've had a sofa - ordered wrong size and they swapped
and my brothers had 2 sofas and a chair.

We're all very happy with quality :)

i bought a dfs leather 2 seater sofa 7 years ago and am very happy with it. it is light grey and cleans up really well. i have a small cottage so didnt want a dark colour...dogs are allowed on it but it is so easy to clean i dont mind

We got a fab tan leather sofa from Made looks amazing 2 years on. Both cats and dogs sleep on it. Also a modern style 😊

Try Sofology, they're owned by DFS but are much better and run independently Their sales people don't work on commission so there isn't the hard sell. We got a leather couch from them and are delighted with it - broad arms for laptops, good quality leather in a range of colours including reds and very comfy - the dogs love it!! It was called Darley, the first picture shows it with contrasting piping but we got self coloured. We have a throw tucked in on it for the dogs but they do like to ruck it up to make a nest!

Take a look at Long Eaton Sofas, they manufacture themselves and have a huge range of styles and fabrics including dog claw proof and Aquaclean fabrics that you can get stains out yourself with water. They also do leather. They are extremely helpful, a family business that have been going for years and the quality and prices are brilliant when you compare with others. They have a large showroom on site where they manufacture in Long Eaton in Nottinghamshire.

Thanks all. I have found a leather sofa from a firm that makes them to your own measurements, which is great as I can have a nice smallish one ! Leather. They also do the Aquaclean material, which I had never heard of. Mind you it comes from Belgium so if we have a no deal brexit it may be some time before I get it !
