and its not really healing. He has been to the vets, did the full treatment of antibiotics and anti imflammatories. Wound looks clean but of course he keeps opening it. Its not really slowing him up and restricting his walks doesn't help - he just goes bananas in the house (popularly known as the staffie wall of death where he - literally - legs it full throttle around the house and garden). He is losing patience with me looking at and washing it (warm salt water) .... any other ideas?

been singularly unsuccesful in trying to a: bandage b: keep anything on - any tips?! took a couple of us to put it on and it lasted - oh, 3 minutes before he ripped it off..

I am keeping him on soft ground with minimum of "road" work as well..

Well, a secure bandage is a start! Its a nightmare trying to bandage a foot when the dog keeps snatching it away! I find having a helper who a) has a few treats that they can drip feed to the dog, b) can hold out the leg via the dogs elbow and c) a third helper who can keep a hold of the dog!:D Regarding the dog chewing the bandage, would it be possible to spray the bandage with hairspray or something? Or failing that a basket muzzle until he accepts the bandage? Not much help as most of mine seem to accept a bandaged foot although they do tend to milk it and hobble around on three legs just for the sympathy!:D

Have you tried asking the vet for a head collar thing (one of the big plastic lamp shades!) My dog had to have a claw removed at the vets and had the lamp shade on for a week! His walks were restricted to prevent it hurting but it wasn't covered at all... Even when he came back from the vets...

Hi

My Parsons Jack Russell did the same thing last summer and it was a nightmare. He's a total live wire and we had the same problem as you. I found the best thing to do was fairly tightly bandage his leg all the way to the shoulder with vet wrap using a non stick dressing pad over the foot. It's more difficult to unpick the bandage from the top of the leg. The vet also gave me some extra sticky plaster to put over the top, but that was useless. We did have to resort to a collar (you can get inflatable ones from the vet for £12 ish) in the end. It was a good couple of weeks of agro though. Good luck!! J

Thanks guys! I will need to take newbie staffie pup to the vets tomorrow anyway so will ask for the tape then.

The lack of a claw has not slowed the boy down at all..
