Wrong place but more people here,
Dog has been sitting outside work door(shop on sidestreet) for almost hour, went to say hi and he is friendly but wary, followed me back in, quite skinny has what looks like 2 cigarete burns on his face, he's fairly dirty and i dont know what to do!!i offered him a biscuit he wouldnt take it but when i said sit he sat and then started cowering now he's lying down in front of my desk looking dejected!what do i do with him??

Try phoning your local council (if they haven't gone home) it sounds like a job for the dog warden. Or you could try the RSPCA but haven't a lot of faith in them.

Is he collared or tagged? If you've got a sympathetic vet around you could see if he's microchipped, though if he's in that state I'm not sure I'd be inclined to return him directly to the owners!

Try the RSPCA if you like, though I personally think they are atrocious at times and dog wardens can be very hit and miss too.

If it were me, I'd call the RSPCA to log it, take some photos of him (dated if possible) in his current state and (if the RSPCA or dog warden's happy with this) take him home for some TLC

NO rspca here(southern ire) just had gardai in, irish dog welfare notoriously bad. logged his details with gaurd and will take him home to not ideal apt.oh has lovely rural house so if i persuade him his lab would love a friend will def keep him. not happy about the way he looks now

Oh bless you, precisely what I'd do. Unless you're renting, don't worry about dogs in apts, they do just as well with a responsible owner

All he needs is someone to care for him

ISPCA? Or are they crap?

I had to leave a lovely dally outside a shop a few weeks ago, it had clearly run off from a nearby beach and was standing outside looking lost - obs somebody's pet - I would have taken her home but I was in my mate's car with two buggies in the back.

All the best with him and let us know how you and he get one!

The Police do not dealwith stray dogs, you need to phone a Dog Waden, if you have them there.

Keep it, take it to work to lay at your desk every day - sounds like a better life than it's currently got! Right thing to do is to get it scanned for a chip though first.

Somebody obviously beats it alot if its cowering, poor love. What breed is it? Boy/Girl?

dog warden is who your looking for... they will take him to the pound...if hes not reclaimed by the owners in 5 days he can be be adopted.il warn you now tho from as little as 5 days after their brought in most irish pound dogs that are not lucky enough to be adopted by rescue organisations or private individuals are put to sleep..

if you do no someone who wants to adopt him tell the dog warden this and you might skip him going to the pound.

..if you keep him for a year and a day(i tink it migt be just a year) and tell the gardai and the dog warden that he is a stray so they register him as such.. and no one claims him within the time limit then by law hes hes yours for good ...

if you want to look for another home for him the boards.ie has a good lost and found section as well as rehoming section in with the animal and pets section. You can also check the website if http://caravetgroup.com/Lost_and_Found/Default.175.html and www.lostdogs.ie

If your near dublin and ashtown pound then dogsindistress.ie are a good rescue organisation who might take him on..

In the mean time id bring him home and give him some food and water...
get in touch with the gaurds(they probly wont be intreasted) but should log him in as a lost dog in case anyone is looking for him and call the dog warden...you might not be able to get tru to them til 2moro tho.. to find the number just google your county and and dog warden

Just a little update, Dogs details are logged with gaurds, my mum is actually keeping him for the moment!she seems to have fallen in love , hes very much a mongrel, looks like a kinda lab crossed with hound big/medium sized, he is also missing half a tail, definalty not docked looks like he lost it in an accident.iv put signs up saying lost dog and if anyone goes to local gardai station looking for him they have his details.
i live in a fairly small town village so if anyone is missing a dog they would go to gaurds 1st, would hate to go down dog warden route,
Thank you all for your help!!!
xx
