Dog insurance

Petplan...is the only one I can recommend personlly...they are a little more expensive...but well worth it..they settle quick and cover individual ailments for life, not just a 12 month period ike most others.
I have also heard tha M&S is good.

I work at a vets and as i'm the one that deals with claim forms and talking to the companies i would highly recommend Petplan, they pay up v.quickly, they cover each ailment for life and all vets love them! M&S is very good too.Either of those i'd say.

Anyone have any idea how much it costs to insure a Standard Poodle size dog? and if the prices rise as the dog ages? I have had dogs all my life and never felt insurance was needed as the only major vet costs were with an elderly dog and were a tiny fraction of the costs that I would have paid in insurance over the years!

However, that was until this year!! Too late now, but I have learned the hard way about doggy vets fees! One of my girls developed bloat and had surgery for gastric torsion. Thankfully, she came through it (it was touch and go for a while), but the fees are still sitting on my credit card

Then two months later, the other one completely dislocated her femur from her pelvis in a small scuffle with her sister

She is thankfully now well too, but the nearly £600 for that is now also sitting on my credit card

depends if the standard poodle sized dog is a pedigree or x breed, age, previous illness/injury, is it neutered? all of the above will factor in.

[/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't insure these girls now - too much medical history! I'm thinking of future members of the family. A full pedigree Standard, probably a puppy or youngster with no history of health problems! I generally have bitches and my current two are spayed (does that make a difference?).

It can do...depends on insurance company......I would guess somewhere between £20-30 for a pedigree standard poodle with someone like pet plan....maybe even more...I pay £15 for a small x breed.

im with PetPlan, offers great cover for a good price!

HOWEVER - IF YOU HAVE AN EX-RACING GREYHOUND DO NOT INSURE WITH TESCO, YOU WILL BASICALLY THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY AND THEN HAVE TO PAY YOUR VET BILLS TOO!

lol just thought id tell you guys, a friend on a different forum has had a few problems with her ex-racing greyhound and was insured with Tesco and has had to pay all vets fees etc, apparantly its in the small print but the person has said it wasnt when she read it??

it doesnt involve me as i have rescue lurchers and am insured with petplan, i just dont want people on here the make the same mistake as the woman did. its funny how, out of every breed on the planet, they won't insure ex-racing greyhounds

petplan are very good, pay out with no quibbles over nonsense. M and s are also very good but have gone from having no excess to having one and have also raised prices apparently. most supermarket pet insurances are fine, but always read the fine print, some will only cover you for a year, and then knock off any illnesses. No good with illnesses like diabetes or cancer
