Hi, weve been having a chat about insuring our Lurcher, so knowing the pitfalls of some of the Horse Insurance companies out there, I wondered if anyone could recommend a company for insuring dogs.
Ive done the comparison sites, found a really competitive quote but then googled it to see if there were any reviews and they were awful. I know you get what you pay for but some quotes are so high.
Thanks for any replies :)

Pet plan are good, sainsburys and tescos and direct line are worth looking at also. Nfu are good but a pain to deal with regarding small animal in my opinion. Stay clear of the same ones you would stay clear of with horses!

Thanks for that.
Im having the same dilema with horse insurance at the mo having been with NFU for years and my premium going up loads this year. I tried Petplan and they were even dearer. Back to the Lurky insurance, Ive tried petplan, direct line and Tesco and Tesco win hands down. Thanks for that, I feel better now :)

Humbug is with the Halifax, I have a pretty enormous claim going through at the moment. All I can say is have seriously not been impressed so far, ease of getting claim form and calling for updates. Basically every time you call they answer to tell you there is no one available to speak to you and they will ring you back within two days!!

Not sure if I will ever see a Penny of the claim but customer service doesn't fill me with hope.

 That is terrible. It really annoys me that they are quick to take your money but then give shoddy service. It shouldnt be allowed. Im really suprised that a company like that can get away with it.
At the back of my mind I keep thinking that maybe I should go with a company that dedicates itself to animal insurance only as the likes of Tesco, Halifax etc do everything.
I have tried to get through the Tesco application page and it wont accept my clubcard number which gives 25% discount. Its driving me mad :mad:

beware if you already have halifax or lloyds policies.

which is why its very difficult to speak to anyone in person there at the moment. Sorry to bring bad news.

one of my dogs is insured with halifax atm but will run out in nov so ive been notified that halifax is redrawing from pet insurance..so im on the look for another

i had claimed several times with halifax in the past with another dog of mine and they always paid up quickly

looked up the post office..a few quid cheaper than i was paying, has anyone used these before

Petplan - won't pretend they're cheap and yep after your pet reaches a certain age they want you to pay a percentage of each claim as well as excess but over the last 4 years or so the amount we've claimed from them is easily in double figures and never had any issues about getting them to pay up. I've also heard good things about Axa on here, although not had any dealings with them myself. MoreThan used to be ok as well but I know a few people who did have their premiums take a bit of a hike as their pets got older though, guess that is rather par for the course with insurance though!

I would avoid healthy pets at all costs. they take forever to settle claims have rude customer service staff and hike the premuims massively if you have a claim. Beware!

I have my little chap with NFU again not cheap but well worth it

I have 3 ongoing claims with them and they are paying out on all 3

Each will pay out £4000 per year for life. They have never quibbled with anything. They even pay for the special food he has.

They payed out on a MRI with no questions and have recently paid directly to the Royal Vet College. Well worth looking into.

Thanks everyone.
Just done it with Tesco :eek: before reading the bad review on here :(
Now to sort the horse out! Gone up from £35 to £51 per month with NFU :(
