After speaking to my neighbour I was wondering what everyone pays for dog insurance. I currently pay 70 a month for my 12 year old Jack Russell who I have never claimed for. My neighbour says she pays 125 s month for her 7 year old husky who she's never claimed for. It made me think does the breed of dog effect the premiums.

£95 for an almost 2 year old GSD female......

Breed matters hugely - a GSD will prove expensive due to the risk of paying out for HD/ED etc, however you are never offered a discount if the dog is health tested and has good hips and elbows.

A friend once had a huge problem with her insurance as they refused to pay out on a broken leg due to saying that the X Rays for HD/ED scoring taken before the policy was taken out proved there was a pre-existing problem with the limbs.........

I was paying around £30 a month for a Springer until they said they were stopping my public liability insurance because my dog was aggressive. Dog growled when vet squeezed an injured area. They then wouldn't pay out as said injury was caused by dog groomer. It wasn't but I couldn't be arsed to fight them 😤

£40 pcm for 4yo Whippet - Many Pets. Lifetime Policy (I think!) with 10k annual cover.

£30 pcm for 7yo BC x GSD - Tesco. Lifetime policy £7500 annual cover.

£28.50 pcm for 11yo Lurcher - Insurance Emporium. This is £4500 cover but a less comprehensive policy and only covers new conditions for 12 months.

I’m paying £40 for a 4 year old Gsd , on a 2 dog policy with Many pets . Other dog is £60, he’s had quite a few claims but is a rare breed which makes a difference. It annoys me too that good hip and elbow scores don’t give a lower premium.

128 monthly for approx 10yr old terrier cross. He's on monthly librella, twice monthly hydro treadmill. He's had surgery to left hind aged 2 and steroids injected for IVDD in his neck. He's had multiple MRIs CTs and xrays. I pay 20% of all bills and havec£200 excess. I'm still quids in. Animal Friends have been amazing, he has life time cover.

Of course.
I get the best policy I can in my budget per dog. The Poms have lifetime 15k cover, my Boston has 1 year limited 7k cover with a 25% co-payment.

Oh wow. I’ve just got my renewal and it has gone up a bit. I was planning on looking around but perhaps I’m stuck where I am!
I have decent policies
I believe Cecil’s is not time limited and he has up to £10,000 cover. His has jus gone up to £284.88

Bert has £5000 and I believe his is a yearly time limited and his is £320 a year

The one cat I have insured is yearly and I’m not actually sure on his amount but he is £155 a year

They are cheaper as it’s a multi pet policy and we also have vehicles insured with them so every policy knocks some off.

Who was that with? That’s mad. Surely palpitating an injured area is likely to cause reaction and indeed checking for a reaction is often done on purpose to pinpoint the area.

£52 for a 13yo spaniel with a big claim (2.5k vet cover)
£24 for a 3yo Mannie with clean vet history (7.5k vet cover)

My terrier is muzzled for all painful procedures or any foot examinations. He's nipped a vet who thought they knew better. I hold him for most things and am confident he wont hurt me but there's a lot of verbal abuse for injections. As soon as it's over He's full of love and licks to say sorry🙄. Its on his notes at his regular vets and Fitzpatricks and insurance has never quibble.

Well exactly! It's very different from nipping someone on the street or for no reason.

Prefect Pet Insurance. Yes was furious with vet and am longer with them either as had no support to fight it.
