Poor Rosie was in her owners house alone yesterday evening when a blaze started. She was rescued, frightened and smelling of smoke but seemingly ok. She hasn't been coughing or anything. She is staying with us for a while as owners are currently in a hotel. Rosie was fine last night, running about like the lunatic she is and eating ok.

Today she is very subdued, off her food and very unsettled. She is sitting in her bed but not sleeping, she looks exhausted poor girl.

I presume the trauma of being stuck alone in a blazing house and then coming to us and not being with her owners is finally hitting home.

What can we do to help her? We feel so frustrated and sorry for the poor girl.

Cuddles, distractions, quiet atmosphere, if you can keep close to her?
Poor thing, good idea to get something that smells of mum and dad, but not if it's smokey?

Everything in the house is covered in soot and smells of smoke, it really is a mess. I will ring owners tomorrow and ask if they can drop a shirt or something in they have worn. I don't want to bother them as they have so much to do, we just told them not to worry about Rosie and get in touch when they want her back!

She is getting lots of cuddles but isn't happy.

I wonder if she thinks they're gone forever?

Has she seen them since the fire?

Sorry, I have no idea if that's how dogs think but she sounds like she's grieving to me.

Could they pop in to spend a bit of time with her? She may be upset when they go but at least she'll know they are fine and it may put her mind at rest.
Poor girl - hope she's o.k.
