A message for the East Herts Neighbourhood Watch.

A dog was stolen from a front garden last month and the following day the owner received a text message on her mobile demanding £1,000 for the return of the dog. The offenders called themselves Hertfordshire Dog Knappers and if she called the police they would kill her dog. The woman paid the money and her dog was returned the following day.

We do not think this incident is isolated and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been through a similar experience after their dog was taken or think they know who these individuals are.

If you have any information please contact DC Tipping on 0845 33 00 222.
Thank you

I lived in Hertfordshire and it was a problem then, but everyone knew it was the gypsies. It was in the local paper that a woman saw 2 men from a white van lean over her front gate and snatch their Patterdale so she screamed to her husband who jumped in his car and followed them back to the site. He called the police who said they could not enter the camp and the gypsies would only say they found it wandering so no prosecution would ever take place. If I remember rightly a day later the owner had a call to say someone had found the dog and asked for money to return it safely, which I believe he paid...........and one of the men who snatched the dog delivered it back to his house! This happened over 4 years ago in Furneux Pelham I think if anyone wants to check into it again
