Did anyone just watch Panorama just now?

It was about poor staffies being pts as can't re-home as they are so unpopular (except with certain groups).

I agree it is a problem, but to licence every dog like a TV, do you think it's the way to go? I'm not sure it would solve the problem but the country need to do something about the breeding of these dogs for illegal fights.

Harrowing to watch :(

Yes I watched the last half hr of it, its very sad and those poor dogs. Not sure dog licensing would work very well. A Staffi down our road was put down a couple of weeks ago due to it being allowed to run free and it bit someone. Not the dogs fault, the owners just didnt look after her properly. It was a harrowing programme. Went to a dog rescue place with a friend when she went looking for a dog, there were lots of staffies there too. I have 2 Labs and am a dog lover, it was upsetting to see that poor dog that was put down in the programme.

I watched it and felt very saddened by it, however it's an unfortunate truth that it's better that they were pts humanely rather than being left to run the streets and getting injured/abused. I'm not in favour of a dog licence because there's just no way to enforce it- only the responsible owners would be punished and policed. Breeding is seems to be the main problem but how can anyone monitor that effectively?? It makes no sense that people keep breeding thousands of puppies whilst thousands are in kennels essentially on death row.

Can't see how a dog license would work - it would have to prohibitively expensive to fund the admin behind it and I don't think that's really the point is it. Education is key to changing people's attitudes but dogs and other animals will always be a status sympbol to some people.

It would be nice if it would work, but not sure that it would (work)

Those poor dogs, the amount of unwanted animals is heartbreaking :( Yet people still buy from puppy farms, pet shops, some still don't have their pets neutered, breed for money etc I find it all really sad.
