Dog Lovers - what breeds do you like/dislike and why?

I do not dislike any particular breed of dog but love GSDs, Border Collies and have always had a Border Terror.

I would not want to have any of the bigger heavier breeds like a Rot, Mastiff or Great Dane.
A Newfie would be a pain in the backside as we have a very large pond and any long coated dog gathers to much mud in the winter.

What I do like is a dog that was bred for a purpose doing that job.

Ooh, what a great thread. I have to go quite a long way to find a dog I don't like but I've rarely had great experiences with Weimeraners or GSDs.

My faves ... I love sighthounds and lurchers, esp deerhounds and for sheer beauty, elegance and speed, feathered salukis, yum.

And then there's flat coats, irish setters, schnauzers...I love 'em all. And of course you can't beat a good old-fashioned mutt; my girl's a JRT x and totally adorable :)

I love all dogs but especially adore Fox Terriers - they just suit our lifestyle, very good fun and extremley loyal / loving ( we have 3 )

In regards to dislikes...............less hair the better!!

I love labradors (but don't like brown labradors) border colies, parson jack russell, cockapoo (cocker spaniel cross poodle), chinese crested, saluki, doberman, shetland sheepdog, great dane, papillon, bernese mountain dog and 2bh most dogs really

Ones I dont like:
Chihuahuas (used to like them but recently saw one at crufts and it scared me :O )
the dogs with dreadlocks (surely the point of having dogs is to enjoy smoothing them?)
Not overly keen on staffies
Not overly keen on pugs.
grey hounds, whippets, lurchers

I own a chocolate Labrador and love him more than my brothers!

I prefer bigger breeds of dog such as Golden Retrievers, German shepherds, New Foundlands, St Bernards, Rottweilers and Siberian Huskies! I love their appearance, temperament but I cannot own one due to my brother's allergy to dogs so the most we can have is a short haired dog which is why we have a Labrador!
Bigger breeds are easier to look after and are so much more friendly than smaller breeds...
I dislike the smaller breeds of dog as they, in my opinion, aren't as cute or as friendly and tend to be the ones that bark the most...
I used to have two dogs that were Jack Russell crosses that weren't very well behaved although were trained in the same way as my Labrador now if not better. Once they escaped from a house and we were chasing them for over half an hour in the road while they dodged cars! It was on Christmas Day! We soon had to re-home them as we live by a busy road which leads onto dual carriageways and motorways further on....

We got a Labrador as they he is a pure breed so more reliable on behaviour and he is as friendly as anything!

I personally love Jack Russells as I have one called Rusty and even though he's 12 he acts like he's 2! He's in great shape and the vets couldn't believe his age and is the best guard dog ever, not only for my house but the whole road :D

But personally when I grow up I'd prefer to get a german shepard, pug or a husky!

I don't dislike any breeds, I have met bad examples of any breed and there are breeds I wouldn't own myself, but that's mostly because my situation and living arrangements makes it impractical to have a that breed of dog, provided it possesses the typical behaviour and characteristics of it's breed.

I love most breeds but especially Pointers and Whippets due to their athleticism and short coat. Not too keen on West Highland Whites as my sister in law has 2 and they yap/bark at everything but that may be due to lack of basic training on her part when they were puppies.:)

Love hounds - have had beagles. Now have a whippet, a lab and a hairy JR. Love them all.
Would never have a spaniel, a collie or a poodle or probably most toy breeds. Very taken by rotties, staffies and bernese mountain dogs! We are new to whippets and am obsessed!

I love GSPs I can't ever see myself getting anything else

I'm not a fan on little dogs/hairy/bull breeds. But if the sob story was good enough, I would prob have anything!!! (as long as I felt it was within my capabilities)

hmm, the quirkier the better. So often the mongrels live longer happier lives, without being finely bred or picking up breed traits. Always love a slim, waggy dog, breed irrelevent! However my next dog will be a Bavarian Mountain Hound, just Amazing!

Would always have Border Collies as they are great dogs to own and train. Also like Labs but find them rather naughty, but great temprements. Not keen on small dogs and Terriers as in my experience have found them yappy and snappy. Not keen on Bull breeds and anything that looks too interbred.Would love a Husky one day but a have been told you can't let them off the lead, which is a shame as they are born to run.

I have my first Anatolian Shepherd dog and love him to bits. The breed is not particularly easy as they are very smart, independent and very large. They are fabulous guardian dogs though. Mine keeps watch on my farm and animals and me.

It's quite a laugh when he takes me for a walk ;)

I used to have Golden Retrievers but have lost too many to cancer that I won't have another.

I like mixes too. I rescued a medium sized boston terrier*GSD*beagle and he is an intelligent and pretty little thing and very loving.

There aren't really many dogs that I don't like except anything with a squashed face. Hmmm even then I find boxers rather beautiful.

I don't like any gundogs, with the exception of flat coats and one springer spaniel at my agility class. Also don't like most terriers. I love pyrenean sheepdogs but realistically, am too lazy ever to own one. Also love "my" Tibetan terrier (family dog but sort of mine!) and my mums TT puppy but they are very stubborn and sensitive to being told off. Our old mongrel and our lurcher were probably the best dogs we've had, but they were proper mongrels. If I were going to get a dog of my very own I'd probably get a Tibby puppy to bring on for agility but I wouldn't be averse to a long haired chihuahua or a papillon. I do like Havanese as well, they're like mini TT's
