I live in a smallish village and we have a real problem with people not clearing up after their dogs. It is probably only a minority of dog owners but it doesnt take long to build up! Last winter it got really bad - I suspect due to people walking their dogs on the pavements as it was too wet and muddy to use the fields and parkland. Over summer it was less of a problem but in the last week or so I have seen loads around on the pavement.

Our parish council have put signs up everywhere, and stamps on the pavement in the worst affected areas. There are poo bins in the places most used by dog walkers (although these do tend to be around grassy areas).

Last year I contacted the parish council about it and they acknowledged the problem but had no suggestions to tackle it other than what they had already done. I did suggest some kind of patrol so that we could identify the regular offenders and take action, and I was willing to offer my services, but they felt it was unsafe to do so.

I just wondered if anyone had successfully managed the dog fouling in their areas and, if so, how they had achieved it?

I do have a dog and I do clean up after him, but I think dog-less people are quick to judge all dog owners the same. I also feel very sorry for the people walking around the village particularly those with pushchairs and small children that are either treading in it or walking on the roads to avoid it.

someone in my village started putting flags in it, it did work as it made everyone aware how much of it there was so everyone started to approach people who were not picking up. I will run up to people who are walking away from a 'pile' and whilst on my way to them I will loudly say 'You appear to have missed something here is a poo bag' or 'did you forget your bags I have one here you can use' most people are then embarrassed enough to pick it up.

I did once catch someone letting their dog poo on my front lawn and not picking it up - I shouted out the window but she'd vanished before I could get to the front door with a poo bag!

I do know of one dog walker who literally cannot pick it up - he has 2 large dogs that are not friendly nor obedient, he walks both at the same time and there is no way he could hold them both in one hand to pick up their mess. I also wouldnt be brave enough to tackle him! Although I do know someone that filmed him from their window, provided the evidence but nothing was ever done about it. He just walks a different route now.

The parish council were adamant that they did not want members of the public to tackle offenders (I had suggested running a patrol and filming evidence from a mobile phone as it can be done discreetly).

Contact your local council dog warden or your local PCSO, a few patrols may sort it.

I contacted the dog warden last year, along with my local parish council. From memory they acknowledged the problem but had no helpful suggestions other than the signage and pavement stamps that the parish council subsequently put in place.

I haven't seen a PCSO in our area for a couple of years!

I agree it is a problem and I don't have a solution - however, I did have another problem the other day. Whilst out walking my dog recently I discovered (a loud gurgle followed by liquid emissions) that he had a stomach upset. I couldn't pick up a puddle - what should i have done? I confess I scuttled away hoping nobody saw...

This happened to my friends dog recently, they took back a bucket of water and a broom and cleared it up.

One of mine had dire rear while on a walk, I knocked on the nearest door and asked for a bucket or 2 of water and swilled it away

Told a bloke the other day that I'd be round later with his dogs poo and I would post it through his letterbox. Haven't see him walk this way since. It's a bloody big dog too !

I was in a local park - 5 miles from home and 10 minutes from the nearest houses, so not an option (I don't think, anyway)

Sometimes ***** happens often in the most awkward places!! Only thing you might have done was covered it with earth or leaves to soak it up a bit.
