Dog needs to put on weight

I'd chuck the feeding guidelines away and feed him by eye - which would mean for me increasing the feed. He's a young un neutered male and they often run lean - I'd increase his feed to the level which didn't cause diarrhoea and wouldn't 'limit' it to the maximum on the bag.

Thank you CC and WGSD. I have surprised myself at how sad I have been. He was only with us for 8months. I took him on because I thought at 9 years old and vastly overweight, no one would want him.
He was gorgeous in every way and the ignorant way he had been treated broke my heart.

He had a wonderful time with you-realised what it was to be a well loved and looked after family dog x

as for not having him long, I am still broken up about Nova, the little rescue I had for just 5 months last year-they just get under your skin.

Sorry to hear of your loss Chiffy. So heartbreaking when you try to save them but the damage is already done. No doubt his time with you was short but sweet xx

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight in a young growing dog - as it's been said already, he's maybe having a growth spurt & it's better too light than too heavy on growing limbs. My young male GSP was very light around the 16month mark but began to fill out when he hit 2yrs. If needing to put some weight on, i'd consider green tripe, or lamb, in an extra feed, but not so much that it goes straight through.
