Hello, don't venture in here often, but was just looking for some advice and vibes please! So, the low down -
9 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback male, had a pericardiectomy (really hoping I somehow spelt that right!) last year in the summer, after having fluid build up twice.. of course, he's been back and forth to the vet just to make sure it's all fine, and so far it's been smooth sailing, and this is his only real veterinary history. But probably around 2 weeks ago he went off his food, just uninterested. He seems okay in himself, a little slow, but is still drinking fine. He just seems uninterested in food, so we stopped giving him his regular diet and switched to simple stuff like chicken, just anything gentle and appetising to get him back on his feet but he's just uninterested. Took him to the vets, he had an ultrasound on his stomach, blood test, the whole works (have the bill to prove it :o), and we're still awaiting results.. Just wondering what else could be done, etc. I know he's not a young dog, so I guess I'm just posting for vibes and for peace of mind as well :o Any help on food/getting him eating again would be appreciated. Also hugs, vibes and a kick up the backside too! Thanks for reading, sorry if I've left anything important out, am a bit of a jumble at the mo! xx

No advice Im afraid, sending lots of vibes for your dog and hugs to you.

Hoping that his results come up with a definitve answer for something that is going to be easily treatable.

I know the vets have done tests etc so that's good but don't let up until everything's been considered (is he insured?). Not usual for any dog to be off its food (my sis has 2 RR's and they are
greedy!) and I say this with sadness,as I lost my beloved GSP recently - no signs of illness except off his food and drinking more than normal-happy to be walked, have treats, play fight with other dog,run round with kids. So, one day pretty much perfectly
normal and then,3days after going off food,I saw him wee blood tinged urine-straight to vet and 36hrs later,he died:( In those 36hrs,he had bloods,X-ray,scans-nothing showed up much, except enlarged liver&'slightly' off liver blood results. He had advanced liver cancer and there'd never been a sign until then,as his liver started to haemorrhage:( We were utterly devastated-was so rapid from his not eating to losing him,tho I realise it'd been present inside for some time. He was 10,so not a young dog but he had a great life:) I have everything crossed for you that it is not something untoward in your dog-keep at it and make sure he's happy/comfortable whilst it's investigated :)

Are his teeth OK? Have you tried things like tuna, scrambled eggs, tripe?
When were the bloods done? Hoping you get answers soon x

Haven't tried tuna, but have tried scrambled egg, cheese, chicken, mince.. everything he usually loves.. He can chew perfectly fine and I can't see anything wrong with his teeth, and I'm pretty sure he had them looked at by the vet, he's just uninterested in the food? We should be getting all of the results back today, as they were done on Tuesday I think? The ones we had already showed no abnormalities, but as I said we are still awaiting some. Thank you xx

Yes luckily he is insured! And we're trying everything - he in fact just half-heartedly scoffed a bit of toast I'd left.. Appetite's disappeared again now though :( Thank you so much though, will be stalking him around the garden now to check if he's passing anything unusual - dread to think what the neighbours will think I'm up to :o

Thank you very much everyone, will keep you posted if anything occurs xx

Bit of an update - back to the vets on Tuesday for a follow-up and check-up, nothing has come from the other results. He's still rather quiet, but he's eating now! It started after I gave him a tiny handful of cooked pasta after a recommendation from a friend - thank God it was just before we were off to the local butcher to pick up some charming smelling tripe :D - and he's now beginning to eat chicken and mince more. It's not a huge amount, and it's not with as much enthusiasm as usual, but it's certainly getting there :) Fingers crossed it was just a funny patch/doggy cold type thing. Thank you so much everyone, Titan sends his thanks for the vibes as he appears to be a bit better :D Hopefully the improvement continues! xx
