Hello all,

Unfortunately the search continues for the new house however I am still hoping to get my Perro in may which is when the pups would be ready (I will evaluate my situation at the time, if it is the correct decision etc).

Regardless as some of you know or don’t know I would like a standard poodle this year (black with a man clip) etc :P.

The 3 that my friend has are Bitches, all of them very large (GSD size if not slightly taller). Someone who walks their ‘Standard’ Red has a bitch who is what I would say miniature size but anyway. It did get me thinking however that I want a biggen and that the only reason I was going to go for a bitch was because everyone I know has had them, and there have always been bitches in the family (mostly female dogs too…HA!). So I am now thinking a boy, however no one I know has a boy so…

Pros and Cons please :)

Personally I prefer dogs to bitches. Dogs tend to be a bit sookie-er and a bit more loving than bitches - but not exclusively so. I always had bitches, swore by them and then I got my wee chester (a border terrier) and I'm just so bloomin smitten it's unreal. And then I got Merlin (the poodle) and he's just as sooooookie and lovely. My bitches were far more independent and while they were happy to be loved, didn't really reciprocate the same way.

After my GSD boy who is no longer with us, I didn't think you'd get a nore affectionate dog, however, the springer bitch I have now is even more affectionate, I think it just depends on the dog unfortunately, I always thought boys were more affectionate because I had a mongrel bitch who wasn't very huggable so depends ............ boys are easier to have their nuts off, although my springer was spade and only had a 2 inch incision and had no probs so dunno

Thanks guys, I am going to search the net and see what others have said. It doesn't really matter if it costs more to spay then chop as I wouldnt get a dog if money was as tight as that. Its more about temperament etc but maybe it has nothing to do with the sex but the animal itself.

I have just had a look at the breed standard for standard poodles and it is anything over 15", which quite surprised me as the ones I have known have always been GSD size. If you definitely want a larger one I would suggest you do loads of research into the various lines.
I think the dog versus bitch thing is really a matter of personal preference, I have always tended to have bitches, but the one dog I had was a big affectionate lump and probably more of a "mums boy" than many of the bitches.

Hello guys, i thought i could give you an update.
I have found the line that i want my pup to be from as they are much closer to the original spec of the standard. The Canen line produces bitches from anywhere between 27" and 30" at the shoulders. That would ofcourse make them lovely and big and very healthy.
It will either be black or a choc.
