Do you prefer one or the other and why?

I have always been a dog person and am the same with horses, prefer geldings but cant put my finger on exactly why.

I prefer bitches (no scent marking or 'bits' to worry about, lol!) but have no particular preference when it comes to horses. Having said that, I have a mare atm and it is nice to be able to praise dogs or horse without first having to work out whether it's a 'good girl' or a 'good boy' I need!

I am exactly the same, I am not sure why but I have always prefered male animals over female ones. The only exception I have is a female cat and she is a real cow bag!

Bitches. About 99% of all the dogs I've ever known (ie mine or owned by family members) have been female. I'd also always rather have a mare for the same reason. No idea why my family is so averse to males!

Bitch every time. More affectionate, less agressive, they don't wee all the time or get their bits out in company.

I've always had males! Wouldn't say I prefer them but they've all been fantastic, although I would like to get a bitch.

As to horses, give me a stroppy mare any day :D

I always said I preferred geldings and dogs, how I ended up with a mare and a bitch is anyone's guess.

But my mare has never been 'mareish' in her life, to the point that I've never known her to be in season, and the bitch is... well, she's just Dax, the nipple-less wonder. :p

Either. I do find bitches slightly easier to live with but my dogs seem more affectionate towards me. Likewise, dad finds the bitches more affectionate than the dogs. I wonder if that has something to do with what they prefer?

More affectionate, less agressive,

That's quite a sweeping statement. Not all males are aggressive, I have more trouble with 2 of my bitches than my 2 dogs and my mum's when it comes to scrapping

ETA when it comes to horses I wouldn't have a mare only geldings, just never seemed to gel with mares

I love boys! ;)

Only ever had dogs, can't see me ever having a bitch but I know some gorgeous ones.

Having always had geldings, I now have a mare and she is the most unaffectionate horse i've ever known - I put it down to her though and not her sex.

Dogs all the way for me :) They are more loyal and affectionate than bitches, which is a direct contradiction to another post on here I know, but that is based on my experience over the past 40 years :D

I also ALWAYS own a gelding, would never have a mare.... I am too confrontational for mares apparently

Now, can anyone explain why I have three greyhound bitches at the moment?:confused::confused::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D:D

Dogs for me:D.

I have 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 ponies and 5 sheep. Of that lot, all are male except one cat, one pony and one sheepy - and the 3 of them are spoilt little madams:p.

My boys are much, much more affectionate and biddable:D

Oh, I also have a strict neutering policy which applies to all males except my husband (although he knows to be on his best behaviour!) so its not just boys I like, but neutered boys:eek:

As i live in a mostly male household, the OH and 3 sons,my animals are all female
have two bitches, two hens(did have cockerals but not for long),a female tortoise

oh and little simba is a gelding,my other two horse i had were geldings

no preference in horses

i just dont like their tangly bits in shorthaird dogs...but i wouldnt say never that i would get a male dog

Always had dogs and would not go looking for a bitch . Would never have a gelding ( unless I bred a colt and he became two stone lighter ) , mares all the way , much more intelligent and will do anything for you if you click . Cats ( of which I have LOADS ) are much more loving as males but my boys tend to be lard ar$es so I think they are trying to get me to feed them .

Would rather have a dog than a bitch simply as easier to get balls off than to get them spayed.

On the mare/gelding theory- I don't really care and will go for the one which jumps best ;)
